Hello Y'all...Today I have just received delivery of a Cobra 148GTL. I
have retired the Midland 79-290 from base station duty and will
install it into my car. Some observations... the ANL works like a
charm! The RX is alot clearer than the 79-290. I think that the front
end of the 79-290 is too sensitive and requires a decrease in RF Gain.
The 148GTL has a crisp LED channel display, whereas the 79-290 is a
backlit LCD display. The squelch on the 79-290 pops when it opens, but
the 148GTL's squelch opens smoothly. The 148GTL has built in SWR
measurement whereas the 79-290 only has power output indication. All
in all, I like the Cobra 148GTL and I think that it is worth the money
that I paid Universal Radio in Ohio
