National Preparedness Month (NPM) is here. NPM encourages families to
make simple preparations that can save lives in emergencies. In the
aftermath of Katrina that need has never been clearer.
REACT Teams worldwide are launching their ICE (In Case of EMERGENCY) cell
phone safety program as their contribution to NPM activities. ICE
originated in Britain a year ago. ICE uses your cell phone to help save
your life in an emergency. You simply enter several ICE contacts and
their numbers in your cell phone directory (ICE-Bro, ICE-Med, ICE-Sis,
etc.).
ICE keeps your emergency contacts listed together. That helps paramedics
or other emergency responders. They can quickly contact the people you've
chosen. They can alert contacts to the situation and gain important
information to help in your treatment. (The ICE-Med contact you name
should know full details of your allergies, medical conditions, drugs,
etc. Choose that person very carefully.)
ICE is simple, convenient, free and effective. It can help save your
life. ICE is also practical. You can and should use your ICE entries
routinely to make calls. That will ensure the numbers are always current
and correct. ICE your cell phone today.
You can learn more about ICE at www.reactintl.org . Please help spread
word of this important new REACT safety initiative. Invite others to
visit the REACT website and read the ICE information posted there. Just
by doing that, you may help save someone's life. Thanks.
