Description

Most people who have Catathrenia have no idea they have it until they are told by someone else that they "moan" or "groan" in their sleep. Catathrenia appears to combine breath-holding during REM sleep (and sometimes even while awake!), with a slow, monotonous moaning sound during exhalation. Catathrenia is distinct from sleep apnea, there is typically no snoring involved, and it happens pretty much exclusively during REM sleep.

Because Catathrenia is not considered life-threatening, there has been very little research done in the medical community. While doctors tend to dismiss it as an inconvenience, sufferers routinely describe the condition's highly negative effects on their relationships, social lives and sleep quality.

PLEASE JOIN AND CONTRIBUTE, OR JUST JOIN AND LURK. IT'LL HELP SHOW THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY THAT THERE ARE MORE SUFFERERS OUT THERE THAN JUST THE FEW REPORTED IN MEDICAL JOURNALS. THIS CONDITION ISN'T AS RARE AS THEY THINK!
