Mr. Ah Nay who was beaten at Huuh Gkah Akha Army camp is in the earthen hole till tomorrow I am told, I will see if he is released on time.  I am currently notifying all soldiers at all check points that they are on notice that all beatings will be immediately reported internationally and in Bangkok at Thai Military headquarters. As well as at www.akha.org

 

We now have a village name for the Lahu woman who was said to have been murdered by knife coutesy of the Army, so we will be checking that out to identify her and verify that cited killing.

 

We have too many killings, arbitrary arrests and diappearances to keep up with, along with beatings and other abuse.

 

The Bangkok post today brags the arrest of drug king pins in Burma to make everyone think that all this abuse is working in George Bush's terror war on terror and that Thaksins 90 day plan to kill everyone must have been worth it.

 

All is well, take the pill, you will wake up believing.

 

Due to all the work that is coming to my door daily, and to stop the un necessary trips to Chiangrai for computer time (a five hour round trip not counting computer and sleeping time.) I am building a computer and publishing office in the mountains at my home.  I have the pillars up and the foundation done.  I need your help for two amounts.  $500 will pay for the block walls, two doors, windows, wood rafters, and tin roof.  An additional $500 will install the satelite dish for data transmission.  A single trip to town to use the computer costs from $10 to $50 depending if I have to stay over and how much computer time I use.  I would prefer in addition to the fuel and wear and tear on the truck and myself during this long drive, to remain in the mountain and reserve travel to and from villages and work from that location to save funds and time.  Currently I am having to travel a lot more than I am able to apply to the internet etc.

The Akha are undergoing a very brutal detox. There is little food and sure no coffee in the Bpah Mah Hahn village region. Addicts of 30 years are having to dry out and are looking for any detox injections they can find.  Alcohol is being wildly consumed (also much more expensive and more damaging than opium) Beatings by the army of anyone suspected of infractions have the men quite beside themselves.  This is in a village life where pain killer (opium) was much cheaper than food.  People have little to eat, and no access to any other kinds of medical formulation.  In any Thai town you can buy various drugs, so this a war on SOME drugs only, basically the cheap ones.  There is not even a hint of promise to help these communities in any other way, the Thai government never has, and there is no reason that when eviction is over an over stated, that they will start caring about the Akha or any other hilltribe now.

 

In Thai society, life proceeds quite free after the killings, but in Akha society, the killings were just a new name to the same game of killing that had always been going on and now that it is "over" the pressure keeps up and the situation is quite intolerable.

 

The Akha who can not handle detox are either dying, or trying to kill themselves, or killing themselves. American, British and German made herbicide is the drug of choice.

Mr. Ah Juuh from the village below me killed himself last week and Mr. Jah's son tried to kill himself last week, and may still die.
