Michael Moore offers to wash Republican socks

In a bizarre competition, US filmmaker Michael Moore has apparently offered to do the laundry of a Republican voter if he or she will attend a screening of his latest film.

Moore's new documentary, SiCKO, which is an indictment of the US healthcare system, has deeply divided critics in the country.

Nonetheless, just three weeks after it's release, it is one of the top five grossing US documentaries of all time, according to Moore's website.

But that hasn't stopped his marketing and promotions agency Deep Focus from making the unique offer, according to website examiner.com.

"The 'Take a Republican to See SiCKO' contest states:'Can you imagine someone from the government coming to your home to help you with the laundry? Well, they do it in France and if you enter the contest this weekend you will have the chance to win the same treatment for a Republican friend of yours from Michael Moore himself!'," examiner.com reports.

smh.com.au was unable to validate the reports on Moore's own website but in a letter to readers he offers to send a lucky viewer and guest "on a free weekend to the universal health care country of your choice!"

The choices on offer were London, Paris or Toronto, and the trip included "airfare, hotel, meals and, most exciting, a representative from their fine universal health care system who will give you a personal tour".
