Loc: Amerika, land of the Free? Ha! 2.3 million "free" inmates. 25% of world's prisoners!
Kubby may die in days in a U.S. jail. [Re: escapegoat]

If Kubby is arrested in the USA, and held even for only a few days until he can bail out, he could die before he is able to bail out.

Steve Kubby is not like most U.S. cancer patients who need cannabis to keep their food and medicine down. Those cancer patients, if jailed, could die in months due to wasting away, or inhaling vomit as Peter McWilliams did. Because U.S. jails and prisons have not allowed the use of cannabis.

Here is some good info from an ASA article:
http://safeaccessnow.org/article.php?id=1804

Quote:

When Steve was sent to jail for a few days, he was deprived of medical marijuana and became seriously ill. His blood pressure shot up to dangerous levels, and his doctor wrote a letter to the court explaining Steve's condition and warning the judge what could happen if Steve was further deprived of cannabis.

"Please consider the consequences of Steve's condition not being controlled," DeQuattro wrote. "His tumor is manufacturing large quantities of norepinephrine (noradrenaline) and possibly epinephrine (adrenaline). Either compound in minute quantities could kill him instantly by causing sudden cardiac death due to arrhythmia or acute myocardial infarction, or sudden death due to cerebral hemorrhage or cerebral vascular occlusion."

Point 40 from the section called "MR. KUBBY'S MEDICAL HISTORY" in the Canadian government webpage on Steve Kubby:
http://www.irb-cisr.gc.ca/en/decisions/public/kubby/kubby_e.htm#medical

Quote:

Dr. Connors, an expert in the area of adrenal cancers, and whose curriculum vitae [57] suggests is highly knowledgeable in this area of medicine, testified at the hearing about Mr. Kubby's medical condition. According to Dr. Connors, Mr. Kubby's tumour releases, in excess quantities, hormones normally found in the adrenal gland that are called catecholamines. Excessive levels of catecholamines in Mr. Kubby's blood cause a range of separate symptomatic problems including paroxysmal headaches, sudden flushing or pallor of the skin, palpitations (rapid and irregular beating of the heart), hypertension (sudden dangerous rise in blood pressure), excessive sweating, sudden abdominal cramps and diarrhea, chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea, sudden severe weakness and anorexia (loss of appetite). If not controlled, Mr. Kubby's symptoms could evolve further to the point where a myocardial infarction (heart attack) or cerebral vascular accident (stroke) could occur. [58]

Numbers in the above quote are for footnotes at the end of the webpage.

Most importantly is the fact that Steve Kubby is a walking medical miracle. According to doctors people with his specific cancer just don't normally survive long. He has survived for many years due to his diet, cannabis, supplements, etc..

You would think that U.S. and Canadian healthcare would be doing everything in their power to figure out what exactly he is doing to learn from him, and use the information in order to save many lives.

But instead of that, the U.S. and Canada are going to kill him. NO exaggeration. Incredibly dumb from a self-interest point of view. Our self-interest.

Kubbys Must Leave Canada By Thursday, January 26th.

I don't want our daughters to see what US law enforcement will do to their
father.

VANCOUVER -- American cancer patient and medical marijuana refugee, Steve
Kubby and his family have been ordered to leave Canada on or before
Thursday, January 26th. Steve Kubby said, The Immigration Ministry claims
that its departure orders are not subject to appeal, but we're still trying
to get a court to simply grant us our due process and allow us to appeal.

If the appeal is not successful, the Kubbys will all have to leave Canada no
later than Thursday (January 26), according to Rachel James, Immigration
Enforcement Officer.

Placer County Assistant District Attorney Chris Cattran told the Auburn
Journal on January 6th that Kubby would be arrested and jailed for at least
120 days, and possibly much longer. Nonetheless, on January 9th, Immigration
Counsel Keith Reimer told Justice Yvon Pinard that Kubby faced no risk of
arrest if he is forced to return, and Pinard ignored Cattrans statement and
ruled accordingly last Friday.

If he is forced to leave, Steve Kubby will fly directly to San Francisco,
where he will be greeted by both US law enforcement and California medical
marijuana activists, including representatives of California NORML. Every
effort will be made to keep Kubby from being forced to return to Placer
County.

In his testimony to a Canadian Refugee hearing in April of 2003, Cattran
said that Placer County had
arranged for two specialists to fly in and testify at Kubbys trial that
Kubby didn't really have cancer,
but if he did, cannabis was contraindicated and would just make his
condition worse. Of course, neither doctor had ever seen Steve Kubby, and
the leading cancer specialist in BC had just testified to the contrary.
Because of this attitude, Kubbys friends and family believe that his life
will be in great danger there.

Consequently, Michele Kubby and their two daughters will not be flying down.
They will drive to California, instead.

I don't want our daughters to see what US law enforcement will do to their
father. How can you explain to children that their father is going to be
murdered by their government because he uses a medicine that it doesn't
like? she asked.

Mrs. Kubby added, Today is election day in Canada and tomorrow all of the
Ministers who can prevent Steves life from being endangered will be free to
act and do the right thing. I hope that all our friends, especially in
Canada, will call the Ministers and urge them to stop this injustice.

Newsweek, Nov. 14, 2005, page 36:
"The most recent evidence comes from autopsies of 44 prisoners who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan in U.S. custody. Most died under circumstances that suggest torture. The reports use words like 'strangulation,' 'asphyxiation' and 'blunt force injuries.' ...  A few months before the [Abu Ghraib] scandal broke [spring 2004], Coalition Provisional Authority polls showed Iraqi support at 63 percent. A month after Abu Ghraib, the number was 9 percent. Polls showed that 71 percent of Iraqis were surprised by the revelations."
