Marc Emery has given millions of dollars from seed sales to help out whenever and wherever a local legalization group was a few  thousand short of accomplishing their goals. He has given major support to printing the annual poster for the Million Marijuana March, besides funding CANNABIS CULTURE and POT TV. He is the only major marijuana proponent to go farther, and start the first Ibogaine clinic in Canada after witnessing its miraculous effect on his son, a junkie. We cannot allow the U.S., under the rubric of the War on Terror, the seize our leaders around the world and bring them back to the U.S. to face life in prison or the Death Penalty.

Please read the following article, watch the video, and commit to doing some kind of a protest outside the Canadian embassy or consulate in your city on Saturday Sept 10 or the following week.  Sept 10 is when they're doing a big protest in Vancouver. It can really make a difference if we can all coordinate something with our Vancouver people, because most Canadians do not want to give Marc up! (It's a sovereignty issue.) death sentence is out there in public on the internet, and is on a short
list of talking points for emails to Canada's Minister of Justice Irwin

Tell me more about the situation regarding the various factions in NORMAL if you please.

Is there anyone in Oslo propagating info on Ibogaine? It's given us the initiative here in NYC and in Vancouver (Marc started a ckinic, you know) and I've heard you have a bad heroin  problem in Oslo, yet Ibogaine is legal there.

This makes no sense. You could start for-profit clinics, and transform the public perception of the pot bloc from a bunch to hedonists to sober advocates of market separation of hard from soft who have a no-nonsense response to the proliferation of hard drugs into the soft-drugs scene.

Ibogaine, the African rainforest sacramental psychedelic,  gets people off of heroin, coke, speed, alcohol and cigarettes with a single dose or short course of treatments. We would like to help get it started in Norway before the authorities follow the course of Denmark and Sweden, and prohibit ibogaine altogether under pressure from the U.S. because the public is still completely ignorant of its merits as an addiction interrupter.

It is banned only in the U.S., Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden. Treatments are going on in Mexico, Canada, Costa Rico, Brazil, St. Kitts, Amsterdam, France, Britain, Italy and Spain. Cost anywhere from $1000 to $12,000. A battery of medical tests is required for safe administration.

Ibogaine uses many of the same brain pathways as cannabis-- proving cannabis is not addictive!

Your emails about organizing for marijuana legalization have been coming to my email for several months now. At first I was delighted by this initiative. Lately, though, I'm having doubts about the direction your emails are taking. I thought I better speak up.  I'm a bit worried that my views might not be popular here in this forum. But here I go!

I'm speaking from personal experience of a medical marijuana activist. A couple of years ago I have been suing the Canadian government, through the Hitzig case. That case was successful. What I believe was most helpful was that we had a clear message which the Canadian public considered convincing and that the courts were able to buy into.

In respect to Marc Emery and legalization of marijuana, I'm not sure that the Canadian public is hearing a truly clear message as to why legalization of marijuana has to take place. In my mind, the arguments and exhortations that I read  in these emails strike me as preaching to the converted.   Listening to some of Marc's interviews in public media, I don't get the warm feeling that the interviewers or the majority of callers are on his side. My impression is that the reaction is slightly negative. Clearly people are concerned about Marc - a Canadian, threatening to be extradited to US and the personal drama that it is causing him. Yet, I don't detect much support for Marc's arguments as to why marijuana should be legal.
 
It seems to me that Marc's main argument for legalization is that, "in democracy, people should not be imprisoned for lifestyle choices when they don't hurt anyone". On the surface this seems like the right argument. It is a very brief and simple statement, easy to understand by an average person. The problem is that Marc's argument is way too broad of an argument. In fact, it is not an argument for legalizing marijuana at all. Rather, it the stated goal of the entire Harm Reduction movement. I'm very supportive of the harm reduction goal. But it is a long term goal that the public is still debating and will be debating for many years to come.

It applies equally to pot as well as to other street drugs. Cocaine?, Crack? Crystal? It raises too many questions and solves none. While I personally support harm reduction in general, and abhor the war on drugs, I also see the futility of Marc's efforts to lump the legalization of pot with all of the other drugs. It is just too much for the public to deal with. If we want to legalize marijuana in the near future, we ought to be making arguments that marijuana is DIFFERENT from the other drugs and could be dealt with right away.

My view is that, in the end, it is not the courts, or the exhortations of the activists that will allow legalization of marijuana. It is the Canadian public that has to be convinced about this good idea. In addition, the Canadian government needs to feel that they can defend their legislating against the bullying of the big US brother. My reading of the Canadian mood is that we are ready to support decriminalization, but are usure of legalization. I believe the Canadian government is also behind decriminalization. It can be done despite the US bullying. After all, Canada could always argue that they are just bringing the law in line with the laws in United Kingdom. Why not to allow Canadians to enjoy the same rights as UK citizens? And, it is my belief, that decriminalization in Canada would also reflect positively in the US public opinion.

Clearly, decriminalization has its problems. I expect that, in a couple of years or so, the experience gained from decriminalization of marijuana will show the public that we need to proceed to full legalization. 

To sum up, my view is that to expect legalization happening in one step is not going to get us anywhere. We would be better off pushing the government to stop delaying the decrim bill.

I was hoping to get as many details as possible from any organizers you're talking to, about their protest date, when where etc so I can put it up on the website.. Even if you have a list of emails for the organizers I can talk to them directly to get details. Either way I'm eager to get more info cause people are asking daily about the U.S. protests on the Cannabis Culture forums!
