I have been in the medical field for over 30 years, with 20+ specific
to Cancer Registry. Maybe I am just getting old and want to retire,
but I am so frustrated with all the changes that keep coming up. Life
was so simple with the D A M Manual, I agreed it had to change, but
with every new CEO of the standard setters such as ACoS and SEER and
NAACCR, they throw out what was working well to come up with their own,
great new plan. Then we get screw__. The newest release of the
Collaborative Staging System seems to have just about pushed me over
the edge. I don't even enjoy my job much anymore. It doesn't seem
that there is any way the data can be meaningful or valid at all. I am
also concerned about the quality. I see so many people working in the
field who are unqualified. The data is dirty and there is very little
we can do about it. With some hospitals giving "quota's" to meet, that
compromises the quality of the data even more. They are going to do it
fast and dirty just to meet the quota, afraid of getting written up.
What happened to integrity and standing up to what you know is right?
Where does this madness end.
