This is very unrealistic. I can't imagine anyone imposing that requirement.
Have you quoted to your boss that we originally only recorded 70 some data items
and now have to look at over 400. Plus the rules for abstracting certain cases
change all the time and you have to stop and look them up. It would be fine if
all the treatment was on the chart which it rarely is and the doctor documented
the stage. (By the way, you couldn't possibly take bathroom or lunch breaks or
answer the phone.) I do know of a registrar that completes 25 to 30 a day but
her documentation is scant and they region complains about it. Give your boss
just one chart to abstract and see what happens. There is no forced quota at my
hospital. I do have a contract person that helps with the abstracting who does
not answer the phone and I make sure all the treatment is available and if it
isn't then I have to find it later and put it on the abstract. This person also
works with no distractions but still only abstracts 3 charts a night.

Subject: [Cancer Registrar Group] Abstracting productivity standards

Hi all. I know I've asked this question in the past. It is extremely
important that I gather data on the number of abstracts done per day.
This is on a day when all 8 hours is spent on abstracting only. Do you
have an enforeced quota that has to be met daily and if so, what is the
number of abstracts required? Our employer is requiring us to complete
7.5 abstracts daily for an 8 hour day. They are monitoring us on a
weekly basis and we have been informed that we will be subject to
corrective action and discipline if we cannot achieve this quota. We
feel this is unreaslistic. Does anyone have any input or help?
