RE: [Cancer Registrar Group] performance standards

Thank you very much for your response. Yes it is a shame that people give
up quality for quantity. I'm hoping with enough input from Registrars
outside of my work that it will make a difference when we take it to a
higher level. Thanks again.

RE: [Cancer Registrar Group] performance standards

Sorry it took me so long to respond but 7.5 a day is a lot of abstracting.
Of course, that can't include answering phones or taking care of any
other requests or setting up of meetings, etc. It also can't mean
completing an abstract since patients travel all over for their treatment.
Or it can't include contacting doctors offices when they come to your
hospital for a biopsy only. Completing the abstract sometimes takes as
long as it does to abstract. Then then are site discrepancies and
histology discrepancies that have to be clarified. It's sad that
administrators have no idea the complications of our job.

I'd like to find what the productivity standards are for abstracting
in
other hospitals besides my own. I am referring to if you abstract all
day. Our administration is enforcing a new standard of 7.5 a day. We
work from 8:30-5:00 with a 1/2 hour lunch and two 15 minute breaks. So
that is a total of 7.5 hours a day. Also I would like to know if
anyone
has any literature or information on best registry practices regarding
cancer patient follow up and the importance of data collected such as
date
of first recurrence and with or without disease. That also is under
debate where I work and date of recurrence and disease status will no
longer be documented. I have a meeting coming up in the next several
weeks with upper management and would like to be able to have a
reliable
data source to help defend my position regarding the importance of
data
collected in our departments.
Thanks,
Tracy
