Does any one know of registries that have developed a rate/per hour
or fee-based charges that are used to bill requestors or just to
track data services used in the production of a data request? I am
not referring to "charging for the data"...I am referring to
accounting for the actual cost in labor and time that the registry
incurs when retrieving, analyzing and preparing data for production
of spreadsheets, graph and tabular charts, statistical reports, etc.
that are requested.
The requesting physicians are faculty of an affiliated medical
school and are also medical staff of the hospitals that own the
cancer registry. These data requests' results serve to support a
range of research-related needs such as grant proposals, IRB-approved
retrospective reviews for presentations, and IRB reviewed and
approved patient accrual for grant- funded research studies. The
projects and requests range from quick and easy, to complex and long
term, involving more registry staff than the manager.
I am a manager in a large cancer registry (5500+ cases a year,
three facilities all owned by one institution, that is affiliated
with a NCI designated Cancer Center and a medical school). the
medical school does not own or run the hospitals, but most medical
staff at two of the teaching/tertiary care facilities are also
faculty at the medical school, and both those facilities are located
on the campus of the medical school.
Thanks for any info.
