Hi! We were for years under the manager of the Cancer Treatment Center at our
hospital (best place we ever were!!) Now, however we are under HIM and our boss
is clueless as to what we do! The CTC Manager learned abstracting and much
about the registry. In light of that, he was extremely supportive of our needs.
He also left us alone, knowing that we knew our job and would come to him as
needed. Unfortunately, HIM managers tend to want to "control" eveything, even
when they have no idea what we actually do. Also, located in the CTC, we had
access to the doctors with any questions we had and they were extremely helpful
to us. I do hope you can stay with Radiation Oncology!

What department has responsibility for the cancer registry in your
facility? I am currently under the direction of the radiation
oncology
department in our hospital (small, community-based), and they are
considering switching the registry to the HIM department. I would
report to the manager and director of medical records instead of the
oncology nurse manager as I do now.
I am preparing to plead my case to remain in the oncology department,
and would appreciate any input. Thanks!
