We were surveyed by Dr. William Siegel in March. We were his first survey
site using the new Standards. My impression at the time was that he didn't
seem to know what he was looking for. I'm sure that has changed by now. He
requested that we schedule a cancer conference during his visit. He had me
open my database and he chose 4 cases that he wanted pulled for his review,
in addition to the usual 20. He looked at the P&P Manual and my Data
Request Log. His only suggestion for our program was that we should be
calling ALL of our out-patient cancer patients to be sure they are
receiving the warranted treatment. While friendly enough, he was not
reassuring, leaving us wondering how we did. We had no idea what he thought
of our program when it was over, but we did receive 6 out of the 7 possible
commendations.
Preparing for that survey took so much of my time and energy, I am still
not caught up with abstracting. Good luck with yours. Just keep remembering
that it will soon be over.
