Re: Cancer Conferences where all cases are presented

We also present at least 5 per week. There is a much easier way.
When you get the path report, enter that person into your registry
data base, then put in the path report just like you would if you
were abstracting the case. You can stop there - as you have already
saved yourself the work of putting that path in the database at a
later date, double work. I prefer to go ahead and abstract as much
information on the case as I have. If they are still in the
hospital, I can access some of the radiology reports, and other
things, and I enter them into the database. If they have just been
discharged, I abstract everything that is in the chart. Then I print
out the abstract (our computer system does a nice 1 page abstract)
and that is the handout for the meeting. This also serves as a
quality control by the physician on my abstract as he has the medical
record at the meeting also. The only thing missing is further
treatment, which I add when it happens. This saves so much times,
and is an efficient way for me to work.
It is also amazing how many times the radiologist didn't have a film
or the dr presenting couldn't remember something, and they have my
abstract there with a synopsis of their reports and everything they
need. If it isn't on my abstract, it is because it hasn't happened
yet.
