Re: NCRA Conference History

When NCRA moved to self management, our former management firm only
helped arrange for our conferences which took place under their
watch. So, along with a whole lot of other things, getting a couple
of conferences scheduled ASAP was one of our hot potatoes. Thus the
recent erratic rotation pattern - we had cities just saying "nope"
to our 2002 conference because they were already booked up by mid-
2001. As part of that process, we reviewed the past rotation
pattern. There was some member input that even though we rotated
across the three regions, it was primarily in southern locations
which meant northern registrars rarely got a breather on the travel
costs and multi-stop plane flights. So a decision was made to
follow more of a six-point rotation schedule to try to make sure we
all got something of a break every so often. I don't recall exactly
what order we agreed on (I remember writing of it in The
Conntection, either in Board highlights or in a regional director
article). Basically it will cross the north in each region, then
the south in each region. The other thing we are beginning to
experience is that the size of our conference has grown to where it
limits our choice of cities more than it used to, so we can expect
to see ourselves more frequently return to the same cities. Lori
Swain could probably communicate this much more clearly than I have,
but I hope this helps a little bit.
