Congratulations on becoming a Cancer Survivor. We feel blessed to have
faced our mortality and come out ahead. Yes, we sometimes look back to
see if it is gaining on us, but we just run faster.
Yesterday was a great day for me. I ran a 5 mile road race and
finished 268th out of 451 runners. I finished nearly 7 minutes faster
this year than I did last year and I came in 5th in my age group
(60-69). Every year it seems to get easier to do well in my age group.
After 4 miles I was charging up a long hill and feeling very tired.
Behind me I heard the slap-slap of footsteps and the huff-puff of
breathing getting closer. I leaned forward, looked down at my legs and
commanded them to move faster. When I crested the hill I felt a thrill
as I realized there was no longer any sound behind me. I had broken
the charge of the other runner.
After the race Hannah gave us all a free shower. It was wonderful to
stand in the shower with others and talk about how much fun we had.
That was Hurricane Hannah that washed the sweat from our bodies and
cooled us down.
Shalom,
Chuck
