Last night we celebrated the primary victory for Hillary Clinton.
After 3 months of volunteering it was a wonderful conclusion. I
realize that I am talking about a candidate for president, but it
doesn't feel much different than rooting for the Boston Red Sox or New
England Patriots. OK. Rooting for the Red Sox we get involved in that
dumb Yankee hating and there is lots of vulgarity.
I used to have season tickets to the Patriots back when .500 was
considered a great year and losing by less than 4 touchdowns was a
moral victory. I gave up the tickets when the fans got nasty with
alcohol and drugs, booed every call by the officials, booed the team
when they lost, and beat up my 70 year old father.
In a way Jackie & I chose our candidate to back in the same way our
kids choose their players in fantasy baseball and football. That is we
tried to pick the best and most likely candidate to win. And once
chosen we worked hard, had a great time, and feel good about
ourselves. When you can't work for a living you have to do something
with your time.
Now we can sit back and watch what the rest of the country does just
as we will watch what the New England Patriots do in the playoffs.
At a race this year several women were wearing T-shirts that read:
"It's better to finish 1st than 2nd.
It's better to finish 2nd than last.
It's better to finish last than not to finish at all.
It's better not to finish than not to start."
Shalom,
Chuck
