Subj: Re:Happy New YearHi! It was so nice to hear from Don and Evie. I'm still here in New York State. I retired from teaching school last June after being in first grade for the last 35 years! I'm loving it! I do whatever I want to do, and I manage to keep pretty busy. Don, tell Carol that I have two little Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that are certified therapy dogs, and I take them to the local hospital for visits. I enjoy that very much and those two little dogs are like my "babies"! Do you and Carol still have the dogs ( or was it the "boys")? I work at the FDR Presidential Library as a docent and enjoy doing tours part-time. Rod retired from teaching but is still the varsity basketball coach,so he's pretty busy. It's nice to hear an update from some other "old timers"!Nancy in NYIn a message dated 12/30/2007 1:15:52 P.M. (It’s absolutely AMAZING how much time has passed, without our realizing it!)
Life after cancer (14 years in my case) has been good. Our oldest grandson was born the year after my diagnosis, and it has been TERRIFIC to see he and his brother grow up to become fine young men. They and our daughter just left to go back to
, which has been their home for many years. Columbus ,Ohio
Our son, Allen (who many of you met at the reunion in
San Antonio ) is still inand he and his wife of 7 years continue to love it there. We just returned and know why. Austin
I “kinda” retired a year ago. Well…the company I was with was bought out and the division I was leading got folded into another one that is headed up in
. (Maybe if I’d have paid better attention in those French classes, I’d still be with them.) Anyway, after about six months of looking for another opportunity, I decided that I’m doing just as well day trading stocks. We have been in France Chicago for five years now, and plan to relocate back toSouth Texas whenever the real estate market allows us to move without having to give our house away. We enjoy it here, but prefer being somewhere from which we can travel to see snow if we really want to see it. We just had one of the heaviest snow months on record for December. I will say that it’s not as bad when I don’t have to drive in it every day; but we still prefer sitting out by the pool.
Well…y’all take care (I need to get that back into my vocabulary for a move down south), and continue to enjoy every day of 2008.
Love and hugs from both of us,
Don & Carol

WAY TO GO CHUCK. . . .
Wishing you and Jackie and all our friends a great 2008.
In February I will celebrate . . .fifteen years. . !!!! ! !!!!! !!!! yeah 15 yrs. of surviving the monster's onslaught and living to meet two grandsons, major milestones in my life and many others opportunities and events and things that have helped me grow and celebrate and learn. . . It had tried to hide on me and the medical community was there for me, and wouldn't let me give up. . . and it took a team of great doctors to find it and cut it out of me just in time, before it spread. . . it was a fast growing type of breast cancer that has now been all but eliminated. I went through chemo, a lumpectomy, and radiation treatments "to be sure" for over a year. Thank God for my dear Drs. Chandler and Dr. Murray, who held my hand and gave me courage to face the battle.
I rejoice in this life. . . I will turn the big 65 this Monday. . . yeah New Years Eve. . . I will honestly say, I wouldn't know how much joy there is in this life if it wasn't for the founder of this website. . .and all the folks I've met over the years, because of this place to come to as Survivors. . . a real place of living and sharing and rejoicing in each minute, hour, day, week. . . year. . . of life. I keep on keeping on in honor of those who weren't as lucky as me, and glad they touched my life in special ways and gave me hope. . . I try to give hope to others and tell others about all those who've met me over the years. I try to turn the tears into smiles. . . just as the founder of this website did for me. (do ya hear me Jimbo ? ? ?)
Sending wishes for a very happy new year. . . a 2008 filled with joy, love, peace, good health, courage and curiousity (to find out what will happen next). a special thanks to Chuck and Jackie for keeping this going. . .
Love ever. . . Evie in NJ. . . aka . . . the Joisey girl.

Subject: [cancer_survivors_gathering_place] Race RewardsMy family & friends,
Yesterday Jackie & I drove to Runners' Alley into claim my Portsmouth
free jacket for running 5 races in the Seacoast Race Series this year.
The jacket is great and I will wear it when I run in cold weather.
The jacket was free. I only paid $180 for race entry fees plus $80 for
transportation to and from the races plus the $1 I paid for losing one
of the races to my buddy.
On the positive side I was paid $4 from my buddy for the races I won;
received 6 imprinted t-shirts, 1 hat, 1 pair of socks, 1 key chain, 2
pens, 8 packets of biofreeze for muscle pulls, 3 gift certificates for
gatorade; ate 6 bananas, 5 bagels, 1; drank 2 six-packs of hamburg
gatorade and 12 pints of water; and had a great time running with
10,000 others.
Next year I have my heart set on earning another FREE jacket!
I uploaded a picture of the jacket to the photos section.
Shalom,
Chuck
