Description

WELCOME... This is a support group for people (and their caregivers) that were diagnosed with a RARE form of cancer called "Primary Mediastinal (or thymic) large B-Cell non hodgkins Lymphoma" (abbreviated PMBCL).

This group is NOT for the more common Diffuse Large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).

NOTE: Mediastinal (or thymic) Large B-cell Non Hodgkins Lymphoma is a rare form of diffuse B-Cell lymphoma that develops in the thymus gland. It is a different diagnosis than DLBCL, Thymic Carcinoma, Thymoma, Germ Cell Tumors [Mediastinum], Hodgkin's Lymphoma [Mediastinum].

WHEN YOU APPLY TO JOIN THIS GROUP please state what cancer you were diagnosed with. This group is for people diagnosed with a particular type of cancer (PMBCL) or a caregiver for someone with (PMBCL).

MORE INFO: Large B-cell lymphoma is in fact the most common form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. It accounts for 30-31 percent of all cases of NHL. Large B cell lymphoma occurs in two basic forms, one common, the other quite rare. The first of these is simply a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The unusual form is called primary mediastinal (or thymic) large B-cell lymphoma (abbreviated PMBCL). Mediastinal (or thymic) Large B-cell Non Hodgkins Lymphoma accounts for just 2.4 percent of all NHL and for 7 percent of the diffuse large B-cell lymphomas.

Two primary forms of tumours originate in the thymus. Tumours from the thymic epithelial cells are called thymomas. Tumours from the thymocytes are called thymic lymphomas.

Previously we had 70+ members in a group named MediastinalB-CellNon-HodgkinsLymphoma. It disappeared from yahoo groups, so we started it up again here.
