I was wondering how many people here take a steady dose of
antioxidants, adaptogens, and cleanse their colon? My family history
is filled with cancer and diabetes and I've learned a lot about the
human body on my own to take care of myself before any one of these
diseases hits another family member. My mother is a breast cancer
survivor and I have a hard time getting her to eat organic foods as
well as follow my advice. I've also began to take pre and probiotics
to keep a healthy flora in my gut. I'm a firm believer that disease
begins in the colon.

Magnesium, Violence and Depression

International Medical Veritas Association

In February of 2006 the New York Times reported that, “While violent crime has been at historic lows nationwide and in cities like New York, Miami and Los Angeles, it is rising sharply in many other places across the country. And while such crime in the recent past was characterized by battles over gangs and drug turf, the police say the current rise in homicides has been set off by something more bewildering: petty disputes that hardly seem the stuff of fistfights, much less gunfire or stabbings. Suspects tell the police they killed someone who "disrespected" them or a family member, or someone who was "mean mugging" them, which the police loosely translate as giving a dirty look.”[1]

“Police Chief Nannette H. Hegerty of Milwaukee calls it "the rage thing," the Times reported, "We're seeing a very angry population, and they don't go to fists anymore, they go right to guns," she said.  "When we ask, 'Why did you shoot this guy?' it's, 'He bumped into me,' 'He looked at my girl the wrong way,' "said Police Commissioner Sylvester M. Johnson of Philadelphia. “It's not like they're riding around doing drive-by shootings. It’s arguments — stupid arguments over stupid things." While arguments have always made up a large number of homicides, the police say the trigger point now comes faster. In robberies, Milwaukee's Chief Hegerty said, "Even after the person gives up, the guy with the gun shoots him anyway. We didn't have as much of that before."

What could be driving such a surge in violence? We can easily suspect that with a reported magnesium deficiency of almost 70 percent of the American population, we are witnessing the extreme end of the most severe deficiencies in the population. The two most basic requirements for the normal operation of our brain are a sufficient energy supply and an optimal presence of biochemicals involved in transmitting messages. Magnesium is crucial in both the production of energy and neurotransmitters, not to mention the integrity of the blood brain barrier. It is bedrock science that connects magnesium to neurological disorders.[2]

Magnesium deficiency causes serotonin-deficiency
with possible resultant aberrant behaviors,
including depression suicide or irrational violence.
                                                                                 Paul Mason

Magnesium of course is not the only nutrient whose deficiency is leading to broad problems of mind and emotion. Zinc is also an important mineral and is involved with psychiatric disorders. Over 90 metallo-enzymes require zinc and the functioning of the brain is dependent on adequate levels of zinc. Deficiency can cause amnesia, apathy, depression, irritability, lethargy, mental retardation and paranoia. As it is for magnesium and zinc it is for a host of basic nutrients though it is the mineral deficiencies that are the most important.

Numerous studies conducted in juvenile correctional institutions
have reported that violence and serious antisocial behavior have
been cut almost in half after implementing nutrient-dense diets.

But health officials and the pharmaceutical companies want to know nothing about using simple minerals to help depression or violence. Since the arrival of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors antidepressants (SSRIs), and atypical antipsychotics on the market, countless studies have shown the so-called "new generation" of psychiatric drugs to be ineffective and dangerous. Worldwide, sales of anti-psychotics went from $263 million in 1986 to $8.6 billion in 2004 and antidepressant sales went from $240 million in 1986, to $11.2 billion in 2004, For these two classes of drugs combined, sales went from $500 million in 1986 to nearly $20 billion in 2004, a 40-fold increase, according to Robert Whitaker, best-selling author of Mad in America.[3]

Despite a dramatic increase in treatment of psychiatric disorders
during the past 10 years, there has been no decrease in the rate of
suicidal thoughts and behavior among adults, according to a federal
study primarily funded by the National Institute of Mental Health.

                                                                             The Washington Post

June, 2005

Though it is a complex matrix of causes that cuts across physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels of being - much of the blame for violence and depression can be laid on nutritional causes which are the easiest causes to correct. It is clear, for example, that magnesium deficiency or imbalance plays a crucial role in the symptoms of mood disorders. Observational and experimental studies have shown an association between magnesium and aggression[4],[5],[6],[7],[8] anxiety[9],[10],[11] ADHD[12],[13],[14],[15] bipolar disorder[16],[17] depression [18],[19],[20],[21] and schizophrenia [22],[23],[24],[25].

Patients who had made suicide attempts (by using either violent
or nonviolent means) had significantly lower mean celebral
spinal fluid  magnesium level irrespective of the diagnosis.[26]

The Department of Family Medicine, Pomeranian Medical Academy, states that dietetic factors can play a significant role in the origin of ADHD and that magnesium deficiency can result in disruptive behaviors.[27] Even a mild deficiency of magnesium can cause sensitiveness to noise, nervousness, irritability, mental depression, confusion, twitching, trembling, apprehension, and insomnia.

Yet as Evelyn Pringle, investigative reporter, lets us know, “Pharma will stop at nothing when it comes to making money off children. On April 25, 2005, the Ohio Columbus Dispatch reported an investigation of state Medicaid records that found 18 newborn to 3 years-old babies in Ohio had been prescribed antipsychotic drugs in July 2004.” It is a horrible crime and terrible sadness what is being done to the children by pediatricians and psychiatrists who live by the increasingly popular creed to drug the kids with toxic substances.

When the body of a 19-year-old student, Traci Johnson, was found
hanging from a shower rod in the laboratories of pharmaceuticals
giant Eli Lilly, US officials were quick to announce that the death could
not be linked to a new anti-depressant drug she was helping to test.[28]

Magnesium ions have nutritional and pharmacologic actions that safely protects against the neurotoxicity of many agents up to and including stress from environmental noise and physical trauma. Magnesium deficiency, even when mild, increases susceptibility to various types of neurological and psychological stressors in both animals and healthy human subjects. “Mg deficiency increases susceptibility to the physiologic damage produced by stress. The adrenergic effects of psychological stress induce a shift of Mg from the intracellular to the extracellular space, increasing urinary excretion and eventually depleting body stores,” reports Dr. Leo Galland.[29]

Linus Pauling was one of the first who "highlighted the supremacy of nutrition in correcting abnormalities in the chemical environment of the brain." Nutrients like ascorbic acid, thiamin, niacinamide (vitamin B3), pyridoxine, vitamin B12, folic acid, magnesium, glutamic acid, and tryptophane were presented by Dr. Pauling as intimately linked to brain function and mental illness. In addition to strong bodies good nutrition helps us keep our mental health and emotional stability. With the proper diet containing the right nutrients in correct amounts, symptoms of mental illness can be rolled back and treated. Deficiencies in certain necessary nutrients lead to psychotic symptoms and depression while supplementation of other nutrients help attenuate and improve the symptoms of mental illness.

"In 1970 I read about Dr. Abram Hoffer's work and at that time was approached by a friend who had just been stopped from suiciding in a gas oven by her husband. She had her head in there and the gas on. She had also just begun a new drug, for bipolar (manic depression it was named then). She used to be admitted to the local Mental Hospital regularly every year at Spring Time. I began her on hi-dose B3, magnesium, Vit C and zinc. Today she is 90 and as bright as a button, very keen mind. In the subsequent 33 years she has only been in Mental wards once, and that was when she thought she was cured and didn't have to take her vitamin/mineral formula anymore. At that time we were also approached by a young man who had attempted suicide on same drug. The same result we obtained for him. And this was only a small Western cattle and sheep town of 16,000 people. Since, the same results have been obtained in all who have come to me for depression, bipolar, schizophrenia."

-- Michael Sichel, D.O., N.D.

Chittaway Bay, New South Wales, Australia

In 2000, the National Institute of Health (NIH) listed depression as a sign of magnesium deficiency. NIH defined magnesium deficiency symptoms as having three categories:

Early symptoms include (one or more) irritability, anxiety (including Obsessive Compulsion Disorder and Tourette syndrome), anorexia, fatigue, insomnia, and muscle twitching. Other symptoms include apathy, confusion, poor memory, poor attention and the reduced ability to learn.

Moderate deficiency symptoms can consist of the above and possibly rapid heartbeat, irregular heartbeat and other cardiovascular changes (some being lethal).

Severe deficiency symptoms can include one or more of the above symptoms and more severe symptoms including full body tingling, numbness, a sustained contraction of the muscles along with hallucinations and delirium, (including depression) and finally dementia (Alzheimer's Disease).

Mild magnesium deficiency appears to be common among patients with disorders considered functional or neurotic and appears to contribute to a symptom complex that includes asthenia, sleep disorders, irritability, hyperarousal, spasm of striated and smooth muscle and hyperventilation.

Normally joy, sadness and grief are parts of everyday life. While a short period of depression in our response to daily problems is normal, a long period of depression and sadness is abnormal. Most depressive episodes are triggered by a stressful personal event such as loss of a loved one or change of circumstances, and depression over a short period is a normal coping mechanism. Long-term stress-induced depression often results when magnesium falls to dangerously low levels in the body. One of the reasons it does this is because the stress itself depletes already meager cellular magnesium stores.

Repletion of deficiency typically reverses any increased stress sensitivity, and pharmacologic loading of magnesium salts orally, parenterally or transdermally induces resistance to neuropsychologic stressors. If the NIH knows this, why don't doctors use magnesium to treat depression and other mental (and physical) disorders asks George Eby, the developer of coldcure.com, who successfully treated himself with magnesium for depression.

George Eby’s Testimonial

I remain truly amazed at the tremendous benefits of magnesium in treating and preventing depression. In particular, I see magnesium as an important research topic for survival considering its limited availability from our Western diets and due to its ability to inexpensively cure and prevent many expensive diseases, life threatening or not.

I know how bad depression can be, because I spent September of 1999 through April of 2000 in a clinical depression that worsened from the beginning. By Christmas the depression suddenly became much worse, nearly suicidal in intensity, and remained that way for four more months. Never did I think that things could go so wrong with my biochemistry that it would cause me to have suicidal thoughts and tendencies. How wrong I was. I had been taking Zoloft (an antidepressant) since 1987 which seemed to take care of my depression. I lived on Zoloft, but by September of 1999, it stopped working - and I knew that something was really wrong.

My depression was preceded by many years of major stress from over-work, anxiety, hypomania, fibromyalgia, infrequent panic attacks, anger, stress, poor diet, overwhelming emotional feelings, night time muscle spasms, paranoia, asthma, prickly sensations in hands, arms, chest and lips. I wanted to sleep all day and had trouble getting up in mornings. Occasionally my lips felt that they were going to vibrate or tingle off my face. About 10 years ago, I had a very painful bout with calcium oxalate kidney stones, a recognized sign of magnesium deficiency. A few weeks before I was hospitalized in January of 2000, I had very low energy, mental fogginess, depression with strange suicidal thoughts and I was under enormous stress.

Now, I can recognize these "mental" symptoms as symptoms of magnesium deficiency and/or calcium toxicity. I was put on nearly every antidepressant drug known and had severe side effects to all of them and felt sicker and sicker. None worked. I lost a lot of weight, and I was extremely constipated. I also had a cardiac arrhythmia.

On April 12, 2000, I looked like I was dying to several people important in my life. My psychiatrist agreed and took me off all antidepressant medications and put me on a tiny amount of lithium carbonate (150 mg twice a day). Shortly later, I picked up a 1975 copy of Nutrition Almanac, McGraw-Hill Book Company, New York, and happened to open it to the magnesium section. I was interested to find that magnesium was low in the serum of people who were suicidal and depressed. The article indicated that magnesium dietary supplements had been effective in treating depression. Also, a person with a magnesium deficiency is apt to be uncooperative, withdrawn, apathetic, and nervous, have tremors, essentially lots of neurological symptoms associated with depression.

Just a few months previous to the onset of my depression, I had been hospitalized for chest pain, cardiac dysrhysthmia and an inability to take in more than about 1/5 my normal breath. The hospital found no cardiac problems, and the internist gave me an IV drip of magnesium sulfate solution. A few hours later all of those symptoms vanished as rapidly as they had come. What I was beginning to see was that nearly all illnesses in my adult life were magnesium deficit related.

So finally I made the decision to start taking magnesium at a level 3 times the 400 mg/day RDA for magnesium, with 400 mg in the morning, 400 mg mid afternoon and 400 mg at bedtime. I used Carlson's chelated magnesium glycinate (200 mg magnesium elemental) product. Within a few days to a short week, I felt remarkably better, my depression lifted noticeably, but I was getting a bit of diarrhea.

Within a week to 10 days of starting magnesium, I felt close to being well. I looked so well, that my psychiatrist thought I looked better than he had ever seen me. As I improved, I lowered my dosage of magnesium to find the best dosage for me. I lowered it too much and symptoms rapidly came back. Eventually, I stabilized the dosage at four 200-mg elemental magnesium (as magnesium glycinate) tablets a day. My depression is completely, totally, absolutely gone. I am active and can function mentally, emotionally, and physically at my best again. My vision and bowels also returned to normal.

For all the talk about protecting children in America, too many of our little ones are threatened by psychiatrists and psychologists who have betrayed the young. Millions of children are now taking psychotropic drugs, which are causing catastrophic problems that are going unreported. For a tragic trip into the violent hell these drugs are causing please read Evelyn Pringle’s FDA Forgot A Few ADHD Drug Related Deaths and Injuries at http://usa.mediamonitors.net/content/view/full/27099)

After High School shootings

The medical and educational establishments are conducting a skyrocketing campaign to get kids and their parents to “just say yes” to brain-altering pharmaceuticals, with the drug of choice being Ritalin, even though some report that Ritalin is a drug that has a more potent effect on the brain than cocaine.[30] By far, the overwhelming majority of psychotropic prescriptions for children are given for attention deficit disorder (ADD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).  In some instances, taking medicine is a prerequisite for attending school, with refusal to comply considered grounds for dismissal, or worse, removal of the child from the home by the state.

On top of everything else the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has reported that 19% of newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetic children also have neurological diseases. Many of these children are being treated with psychiatric medications Zyprexa, Risperdal, Geodon, Seroquel, Clozaril, and Abilify. All of these drugs carry black box warnings to alert MD's about the dangers of diabetes. All these drugs would in all liklihood push down magnesium serum levels.

Do not, and I scream, do not trust psychologists, psychiatrists

and the current drug-pushing culture of education.
                                                                              Dr. Julian Whitaker

There is an international explosion of legal child drugging as parents, educators and politicians in mass have been thoroughly duped into believing that only by continuous heavy drugging from a very early age can the “afflicted” child possibly make it through life’s worst. Teen suicides have tripled since 1960 in the United States. Today suicide is the leading cause of death (after car accidents) for 15- to 24-year-olds. Since the early 1990’s millions of children around the world have taken antidepressants that health authorities are just now branding as suicidal agents. This is the other side of the magnesium deficiency, the nightmare of these drugs which only compounds and worsens the loss of magnesium from the body.

The scene has been long in the making for the patterned onslaught of psychiatry on the young. Psychiatry has only in the last two decades unleashed its devastating attack on children using lucrative chemical weapons on our youth – addictive psychotropic drugs posing as medication. Psychiatrists have created a generation of drug addicts and to a great extent they are making the crisis in children today worse when they should be helping to make things better for them.

Child psychiatrists are one of the most dangerous enemies
not only of children but also of adults. They must be abolished.
                                                                                          Dr. Thomas Szasz

Professor of Psychiatry

According to Dr. Sydney Walker, author of The Hyperactivity Hoax, “Thousands of children put on psychiatric drugs are simply smart. These students are bored to tears, and people who are bored fidget, wiggle, scratch, stretch, and (especially if they are boys) start looking for ways to get into trouble.” What this chapter adds to that is the underlying complication these children face when their magnesium levels are too low and the devastation that rains down on them in the form of psychiatric medications.

If we look at the whole picture what do we see? Children are born under medical stress with unnatural procedures and drugs, they are then vaccinated, ie., bombarded with terrible chemicals, dosed out with antibiotics, eat terrible food, watch inordinate amounts of television, suffer through educational curriculums from the stone age, undergo exposure to thousands of chemical poisons in the environment and home, get more vaccines, suffer from malnutrition while stuffing their face to the point of obesity, only to have to suffer through being drugged by psychiatrists further for becoming the mess they have become.

Psychologists and psychiatrists should know better because of their training in mind and emotion so it is a terrible betrayal of humanity to see them turn into drug dealers. The pharmaceuticals that the drug companies produce for these mental health care workers are as dangerous as any of the drugs dealers on the streets sell. Magnesium should be substituted for these drugs not only because it is very effective in relieving neurological disorders but because it is vastly safer than any pharmaceutical.

[2] Murck H. Magnesium and Affective Disorders. Nutr Neurosci., 2002;5:375-389: Murck showed many actions of magnesium ions supporting their possible therapeutic potential in affective disorders. Examinations of the sleep-electroencephalogram (EEG) and of endocrine system points to the involvement of the limbic-hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenocortical axis because magnesium affects all elements of this system. Magnesium has the property to suppress hippocampal kindling, to reduce the release of adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) and to affect adrenocortical sensitivity to ACTH. The role of magnesium in the central nervous system could be mediated via the N-methyl-D-aspartate-antagonistic, g-aminobutyric acid A-agonistic or the angiotensin II-antagonistic property of this ion. A direct impact of magnesium on the function of the transport protein p-glycoprotein at the level of the blood-brain barrier has also been demonstrated, possibly influencing the access of corticosteroids to the brain. Furthermore, magnesium dampens the calcium ion-protein kinase C related neurotransmission and stimulates the Na-K-ATPase. All these systems have been reported to be involved in the pathophysiology of depression. Murck et al. also demonstrated induced magnesium deficiency in mice to produce depression-like behavior which was beneficially influenced with antidepressants.

[28] Eli Lilly's newest antidepressant, Cymbalta (Duloxetine) had 6 suicides in the clinical trials, before it ever reached the market, and in people with no previous history of depression.  The last and most publicized was the death of a young college girl, who had entered the clinical trial for some extra money while she was in school. She had.no depression, was a good student, social and well adjusted, found hanging by a noose after a dosage change of this forecasted blockbuster. http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/health_medical/story.jsp?story=648010    Eli Lilly posted the results of 45 clinical trials on their website in cooperation with recommendations for more transparency for the public, but failed to list the 5 trials with the information about these suicidal acts. Lilly defended its drug, saying that 4,142 depressed patients had taken Cymbalta and the deaths represent a 0.097% suicide rate. Besides, it said, it is the underlying depression - not the drug - that causes sufferers to become suicidal. FDA defended Lilly’s position.  Later a higher than expected rate of suicide attempts was observed in the open-label extensions of controlled studies of Cymbalta for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in adult women.

I have lost my appetite (I weigh around 110 lbs) and loss of taste, hearing, sensation and even judgement.  I can barely drive or walk.  I am a highly educated woman who has lead a national biotechnology company and now I can barely have a conversation that makes sense.  I feel absolutely 100% confident that Cymbalta has caused these side effects.  I have a bachelors in science with major studies in pharmacology and medical sciences.  I previously had meeting with executives and lead conferences that people would learn from me.  Now I can not even stand up straight without feeling dizzy, confused, and paranoid.  I am currently having problems with spelling and grammer.  This use to be a strong skill of mine.  I have been known to edit papers and rewrite many documents and now it is difficult for me to write an email. Cymbalta is not approved for the treatment of SUI. The FDA is evaluating additional data to determine the relationship, if any, between suicidality and Cymbalta use.http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/InfoSheets/HCP/duloxetineHCP.pdf

Dear IMVA,

Below is the first chapter to the Magnesium Chloride book. During the next few weeks the IMVA will be publishing a series of essays on magnesium. After publishing our work on Magnesium and Diabetes Neuropathy we are in the process of discovering the full healing power of magnesium when mega doses are used. Thus we are going to be promoting much higher levels of magnesium adminstered through a combination of oral and transdermal forms. It is an exciting  time as testimonials come in showing us clearly the efficacy of that path we have chosen that  puts transdermal magnesium chloride therapy, natural chelation and remineralization on center stage.

Magnesium in Modern Medicine
International Medical Veritas Association

Magnesium is nearly miraculous for the depth and scope of its application. It really is not an exaggeration to say that miracles in medicine would be achieved if people’s magnesium deficiency were addressed instead of ignored. Certainly many lives would be saved if non-toxic medicines were favored over toxic ones. This is not idle medical banter and the entire medical community will eventually have to reorient itself by putting magnesium at the top of the chart of usable medicines.

When 1,033 hospitalized patients were studied, over 54%
were low in magnesium. What was worse is that 90% of the
doctors never even thought of ordering a magnesium test.
[1]
                                                                                      Journal of the AMA

Despite the fact that magnesium is almost as important for life as the air we breathe, it seems like the medical industrial complex is not too keen on the public getting enough of this precious mineral.  For instance, for the past 15 years evidence has stacked up showing patients with acute coronary thrombosis improve their survival chances by 50 - 82.5% when given intravenous magnesium of 32-66 mmol (1200 miligrams of magnesium equals 50 mmol) in the first 24 hours,[2] and still magnesium chloride or magnesium sulfate are not universally used in hospitals around the world. Rapid intravenous bolus doses of magnesium have been shown to instantaneously and effectively dilate the coronary collateral circulation proving to be a dramatically effective treatment of acute myocardial infarction, angina and congestive heart failure.[3]

Magnesium is the most important
mineral to man and all living organism.

The medical authorities, and certainly the pharmaceutical companies, are in a pickle with magnesium. They have a powerful medicine that is non toxic, inexpensive and effective in a wide variety of medical situations. So what do they do? They have a study designed to show the opposite thus sabotaging medical clarity on the use of a valuable safe medicine. Specifically, when it comes to magnesium, a single negative study showing that magnesium had a worsening effect on survival employed a far higher dose of magnesium (80 mmol) than the studies mentioned above[5], and another study showing no benefit with magnesium employed the low dose of 10 mmol in the first 24 hours.

Dr Stephen Davies and Dr Damien Downing, editors of the Journal of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, criticized the designers of the study for clearly selecting too large a dose of intravenous magnesium, and also for giving magnesium too late and then too quickly. “Although it would appear clear to any first year medical student that magnesium worked well for coronary thrombosis within the optimal dosage level of 30 - 70 mmol; that 10 mmol was shown to be too little, and 80 mmol had been shown to be too much.”

Over 100 patients suffering from coronary heart disease were treated
with intramuscular [injected] magnesium sulphate with only one
death, compared to their findings in the previous year when, of 196
cases admitted and treated with routine anticoagulants, 60 died.

Because of these studies many hospitals ceased using magnesium in their treatment of acute coronary thrombosis. The scandalous decision to use this overdose of magnesium in this study is what we would expect of the profit driven pharmaceutical business and medical industrial complex that hurts more people than it helps. Iatrogenic death and disease is rampant and some of that could be avoided if magnesium were more widely used in modern medicine.

Researchers from Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago have determined that not having enough magnesium in your diet increases your chances of developing coronary artery disease. In a study of 2,977 men and women, researchers used ultrafast computed tomography (CT scans) of the chest to assess the participants` coronary artery calcium levels. Measurements were taken at the start of the study -- when the participants were 18 to 30 years old -- and again 15 years later. The study concluded that dietary magnesium intake was inversely related to coronary artery calcium levels. Coronary artery calcium is considered an indicator of the blocked-artery disease known as atherosclerosis.

Information is scarce about the relationship between cancer and magnesium but researchers from the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota have just concluded that diets rich in magnesium reduced the occurrence of colon cancer.[7] A previous study from Sweden[8] reported that women with the highest magnesium intake had a 40 per cent lower risk of developing the cancer than those with the lowest intake of the mineral.

Magnesium is shaping up to become the number one preventative agent for the major plagues of modern man. In two huge long term studies it was also recently concluded that those who consumed the most magnesium in their diet were least likely to develop type 2 diabetes, according to a report in the January 2006 issue of the journal Diabetes Care. Until now, very few large studies have directly examined the long-term effects of dietary magnesium on diabetes. Dr. Simin Liu of the Harvard Medical School and School of Public Health in Boston says, "Our studies provided some direct evidence that greater intake of dietary magnesium may have a long-term protective effect on lowering risk," said Dr. Liu.

Considering some of the basic research already published it is highly frustrating the inertia in medicine about using magnesium as a primary medicine. Dr. Russell Blaylock describes his own experience with this and tells how his own brother fell victim to cancer and how the lack of proper treatment led to a death that could have been prevented. “I asked the doctor in charge of his respiratory care to add vitamins and magnesium to his IV. While he promised he would, he didn't. When I asked his doctor why the magnesium had not been added to his IV, word was sent back to me through the nurse that she had never heard of using magnesium. I sent copies of selected articles showing the immense value of magnesium on pulmonary and cardiovascular function. Still there was no response from the doctor.”[9]

Magnesium deficiency commonly occurs in critical illness and correlates with a higher mortality and worse clinical outcome in intensive care units. Studies are now underway that have emergency crew personnel authorized to administer IV magnesium immediately in the ambulance. Preliminary trials found "promising" effects of MgSO4 (mg sulfate) on stroke victims if given early enough, before getting to emergency rooms[10]. Magnesium infusion in patients with acute myocardial infarction (four grams of MgSO4 during the first three days) reduced the incidences of arrhythmias, death and the size of infarction. Another study showed reduction of mortality with infusion of 10 grams of MgSO4 in 24 hours.[11]

Dr. Sarah Mayhill, a British doctor working for the National Health Service says, “In fact it is partly this effect which is taken advantage of in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction or acute stroke. In both these conditions there is a local obstruction of blood supply. I use I.V. magnesium (2-5mls of 50%) as a bolus to treat both these conditions - often with dramatic effects. With acute myocardial infarctions there is often immediate pain relief, as either the obstruction is relieved or good collateral circulation restored. Furthermore, magnesium is antiarrhythmic. Trials with magnesium have clearly demonstrated benefit and magnesium is used as a front line drug in many hospitals. In acute stroke, function can be restored within a few minutes - most satisfying. However, if there is a possibility that the stroke is hemorrhagic (about 15% of cases) then magnesium should not be used.”

Intravenous magnesium is safe and effective in acute severe
asthma and is commonly used by emergency medical personnel.

Magnesium has many known indications in anesthesiology and intensive care, and new studies are beginning to suggest its use in many other areas of medicine as well. For instance two studies have suggested magnesium’s role in the treatment of acute migraine. Mauskop et al[12] demonstrated relief of headache within 15 minutes of intravenous magnesium in 32 of 40 patients with migraine, cluster headache, or tension headache. "Not all headaches are produced by mineral imbalances, but we now know that 50 to 60 percent of migraines are magnesium-linked. And that's probably why no prescription therapy on the market successfully treats headaches across the board. They're simply not treating the cause," says Dr. Burton M. Altura, professor of physiology and medicine at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn. "Of the 17 people we've treated with magnesium, 13 have had complete improvement," says Dr. Herbert C. Mansmann, Jr., professor of pediatrics and associate professor of medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.[13]

When used correctly, magnesium chloride is a weapon against infectious diseases. Between its power to stimulate white blood cells and glutathione production, and its basic role in producing energy we have a heavyweight non-toxic medicine we can use without a prescription. This is going to be very important as antibiotics fail us.  For example a new and growing concern - a increasing number of young, otherwise healthy Americans who are being stricken by the bacterial infection known as Clostridium difficile -- or C. diff -- which appears to be spreading rapidly around the country and causing unusually severe, sometimes fatal illness.

It's a new phenomenon. It's just emerging. We're very concerned.
We know it's happening, but we're really not sure
why it's happening or where this is going.

                                                             Center for Disease Control

The infection has long been common in hospital patients taking antibiotics for other reasons. As the drugs kill off other bacteria in the digestive system, the C. diff microbe can proliferate. Hospitals might be forced to use magnesium chloride or just watch as more and more die from their refusal to step outside their medical boxes and use something that can safely help deal with this and other medical situations.

Magnesium chloride, when concentrated, is a powerful universal medicine that we can turn to in many clinical situations, including common influenza and the “dreaded” bird flu, especially when used in conjunction with vitamin C. This is an exciting medical discovery. The same pure natural substance used in emergency rooms to save people’s lives has a dramatic effect on cell life and is safer to use than aspirin. Effective in a much broader sense than vitamin C, magnesium chloride is a medicine that helps doctors to fulfill their primary mission and purpose.

“Magnesium is necessary for the normal function of over 300 enzyme systems, for muscle relaxation, immune function, cardiac function, clotting, nerve conduction etc. Indeed I cannot think of a bodily department in which magnesium is not essential. It prevents heart disease, cancer, blood pressure, kidney stones and improves energy, sleep etc.” reports Dr. Mayhill.

“Like two diverging paths, it appears that the more we learn about the benefits of magnesium the more we uncover about the side effects of prescription drugs,” says Dr. Carolyn Dean, author of The Miracle of Magnesium. Magnesium chloride is a versatile medicine we can all put in our medicine cabinets. It boosts almost all aspects of cell physiology and is what you want around if you are having a heart attack or stroke. Magnesium chloride is a basic mineral nutrient supplied by the food industry that can be used orally, intravenously, and transdermally.

Magnesium chloride treatments address systemic nutritional deficiencies, act to improve the function of our cells and immune system, and help protect cells from oxidative damage. It’s a systemic medicine as well as a local one bringing new life and energy to the cells wherever it is applied.

Hundreds of billions of dollars and millions of lives would be saved
 if
magnesium was supplemented and used widely as a medicine.

The study of the behavior of plasmatic Mg in the acute phase of uncomplicated myocardial infarction permitted the following conclusions; a) during the first three days of the clinical course there is significant hypomagnesemia; b) magnesemia rises progressively during the three days of infarction, without however reaching normal levels. The lymphocytic magnesium also show the same behavior.

Hi,

I dont know what your name is and I dont know where you are from but having fought a battle with cancer for the past 2 years here is a little bit of advice -

Cancer is a dreaded disease and going by conventional medicine the outlook can somtimes be severe and devastating. Once someone has been diagnosed with cancer there is nothing we can do to change the daignosis. That is beyond our control. What we do control is the way we react to cancer. I have done a lot of research on cancer, its treatment with conventional medicine, treatment with alternative therapies as well as treatment whith therapies that follow convetional medicine but in a controlled and restrained manner(IPT, metronomic chemotherapy etc.). From all of this research one thing I have realized is that what mainstream medicine tells you is not necessarily what the outcome has to be ! I have read about and personally spoken to a quite a few people who have beaten the odds even after mainstream medicine had given up on them. They are still alive and healthy years after the doctors told them they have X number of weeks / months left to live. I personally know a woman who has survived pancreatic cancer for a few years. This is despite there being metastasis to the liver in her case. She is still fighting the battle every day of her life. There are 2 ways anyone can look at this information. The doctors opinion - "See, she is not cured. She may have managed to keep it at bay for a few years but she hasnt been able to cure it yet". The other way to look at it and my response to the doctors statement would be "You would have offered her a few months. It has been a few years and she is still around !! She may be fighting the battle but the battle is not lost till it is lost !" We (My family) met this woman at a doctors office here in India (I am based out of India btw). We were following a treatment called IPT (Insulin potentiated therapy). She has been following this treatment for quite some time now along with other alternative therapies which this doctor advises her on. The one thing you have to be prepared for now is that you will have your moments of joy (When you see some iprovement) and you will see some lows (When the cancer seems to be progressing). What you MUST do when you go through a joyous moment is to celebrate the victiory no matter how small and get his spirits up and when you go through a low moment, do not let it bring you down completely. Be alramed for sure and let the gears engage into the thinking process of what to do next but dont let it pull you down where you start having thoughts like "Why us"...."Its all over.." etc... What you must focus on is the next step and what you can do now to improve the situation. There will always be other things you can try. With cancer in the house there is only mindset you can keep. There is simply no space for any other thought process - Victory may just be around the corner but you will never know. If you give up now, you may have been just a few steps away !! DO NOT GIVE UP !!!! There is hope !! Please tell me if you are located out of the US, UK or Australia and I will call you. Or we can communicate more over e-mail and I can tell you about other therapies that I have researched. Please consider IPT immediately. If not a cure, it will definitely buy you some time to find other treatments ! God bless & take care !!!

Magnesium and Preventive Medicine - Part One
International Medical Veritas Association

Typically, if you are a mainstream allopathic physician, preventive medicine is limited to elective stress testing, mammography, screening for prostate-specific antigen, periodic lipid profiling and giving some kind of lip service to life-style changes and diet. This kind of medicine offers only a shadow of what preventive medicine needs to be. According to the New York Times, “New evidence keeps emerging that the medical profession has sold its soul in exchange for what can only be described as bribes from the manufacturers of drugs and medical devices.”[i] A soulless medicine’s first crime is its failure to seriously embrace preventive medicine and avoid disease in the first place. None of the pharmaceutical companies are interested in preventive medicine for they make all their money off the sick and dying.

Preventive medicine is as important as any other type of medicine. In ancient China the oriental medical doctors were paid for keeping people well thus patients stopped paying when they fell sick. Allopathic medicine, through its major misunderstanding, denial and neglect of preventive medicine, is directly contributing to modern man becoming the most diseased population in the history of the world. Doctors and health officials really have no idea that the vast majority of diseases can be prevented and even cured without drugs or surgery. Their idea of preventive medicine starts and ends with vaccines, which contain toxic chemicals like mercury that may be contributing greatly to the swift rise in chronic diseases.

Allopathic medicine could do much to redeem its soul if it would face all the evidence that has been building up all of which suggests that we have to add adequate intake of magnesium—the "forgotten electrolyte"—to our list of preventive health measures. Ensuring adequate magnesium intake, through a combination of dietary sources, oral supplementation, and importantly the use of transdermal methods of application, constitutes a crucial step toward health that is justified by scientific and clinical data.

We need no further information to conclude that the American public consumes less magnesium than necessary for good health and that magnesium supplementation is indicated for almost everyone. Magnesium supplementation is the single greatest thing we can do to help people avoid serious diseases or recover from the ones they already have. It certainly is not the only thing but there is no other single element that can compare.

The use of magnesium as a preventive, clinical and emergency medicine would spell disaster for the 1.6 trillion dollar medical industry in the United States. Single-handedly it could wipe out the need for hundreds of billions of dollars of medical expenses and diminish a mountain of pain, misery and death. When combined with some other medical essentials like Vitamin C, proven antioxidants and minerals like selenium, zinc, organic foods and full hydration with pure water the reduction in medical expenses would be staggering to the industry.

There is a mountain of evidence that sustain these statements. For instance, Dr. Frank D. Gilliland, professor of preventive medicine at the Keck School of Medicine, and his colleagues monitored more than 2,500 pre-teens and teen-agers in a dozen Southern California communities, tracking what kids eat and measuring lung function (how well their lungs work). The team has found that children who eat lots of antioxidant-rich fruit and juices-as well as those who get an abundance of magnesium and potassium-perform better on lung function tests than children who eat less of the nutrients.[ii] Vitamin C plays a big role in lung development, Gilliland says, while vitamins E and A also appear helpful, especially in children with asthma. This information is especially important for children who live in cities and other areas where air pollution is a problem.

According to Dr. Ronald Elin and Dr. Robert Rude, “Refining and processing of grains and other foodstuffs typically results in loss of 70% or more of the magnesium content (as well as other nutrients). The conversion of wheat into flour results in a loss of 82% of magnesium. Refining rice into polished rice sacrifices 83% of the magnesium. Milling corn into corn starch loses 98% of the magnesium. When soy beans are cooked, they lose 69% of their magnesium. Quick-cooking oatmeal provides only about 15% of the magnesium obtained from the slow-cooking cereal. As the nation’s eating habits have gone from freshly prepared items made in the home to prepared, processed meals and "fast foods" taken on the run, the magnesium content of the food has plummeted.”[iii]

Our bodies simply cannot extract adequate
nutrition from today’s “fast” and processed foods.

Dr. David Thomas, who researched government records, found that the levels of magnesium in the average rump steak have dropped 7%. Milk appears to have lost 2% of its calcium and 21% of its magnesium.[iv] According to the analysis, cheddar provides 9% less calcium today, 38% less magnesium and 47% less iron, while parmesan shows the steepest drop in nutrients, with magnesium levels down by 70% and iron all gone compared with content in the years up to 1940. Though some of this information is being contested,[v] academics in the US and Denmark have also reported significant changes in the nutritional profile of modern foods.

Studies show that people who eat at least three servings of whole grains a day have a lower risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer and seem to maintain a healthy weight more easily. Since refined grains, such as white flour, have their innermost and outermost layers (their germ and bran) removed, they are stripped of a great portion of their minerals. Whole grains are not only higher in fiber but contain four times the magnesium and zinc and twice the selenium. [vi]

Only about 15 to 25 percent of children eat
 the recommended amount of magnesium.

Even in individuals who are unwilling to make prudent changes in their diets and sedentary habits, the administration of certain nutrients and/or drugs may help to prevent or postpone the onset of type 2 diabetes. The evident ability of fiber-rich cereal products to decrease diabetes risk, as documented in prospective epidemiological studies, is most likely mediated by the superior magnesium content of such foods. High-magnesium diets have preventive (though not curative) activity in certain rodent models of diabetes; conversely, magnesium depletion provokes insulin resistance.[vii]

A non-drug abortive approach to migraine attacks has been
the use of 1g magnesium sulfate through a slow intravenous
push during an acute migraine with 85% effectiveness.[viii]

Deficiencies in magnesium affect all people leaving them vulnerable to developing acute and chronic conditions. We humans are genetically strong and designed to be well, not ill. Mistakes of living and nutrition break down our natural strengths. It is thought that each person is especially susceptible to certain diseases when compared to other people, but each person is also more resistant to certain diseases when compared to others. In this sense, each person could be thought to have particular genetic weaknesses and strengths but nobody is strong enough to live without air, water, or magnesium for very long. Though in the long run food can be considered one of the best medicines, it is difficult to recover fully from magnesium deficiencies through changes in diet only. Even the use of oral magnesium supplementation is slow and needs to be augmented with quick acting transdermal methods of application and by intramuscular and intravenous magnesium in emergency situations.

A magnesium deficiency is closely associated with cardiovascular disease.[ix] Lower magnesium concentrations have been found in heart attack patients[x] and administration of magnesium[xi] has proven beneficial in treating ventricular arrhythmias.[xii],[xiii],[xiv],[xv] Fatal heart attacks are more common in areas where the water supply is deficient in magnesium and the average intake through the diet is often significantly less than the 200-400 milligrams required daily.[xvi]

Magnesium is proving to be very important in the maintenance of heart health and in the treatment of heart disease. Magnesium, calcium, and potassium are all effective in lowering blood pressure.[xvii],[xviii],[xix],[xx] Magnesium is useful in preventing death from heart attack and protects against further heart attacks.[xxi],[xxii] It also reduces the frequency and severity of ventricular arrhythmias and helps prevent complications after bypass surgery.

Using magnesium as a preventive medicine starts in pregnancy for there are significant benefits of magnesium for preeclampsia and eclampsia. Eclampsia and preeclampsia are the leading causes of death for pregnant women and their fetuses, particularly in developing countries. Physicians believe the high blood pressure, swelling, and protein in the urine associated with preeclampsia lead to the convulsions and coma of eclampsia. Magnesium is a most effective drug at preventing eclamptic seizures. Now magnesium sulfate is being used increasingly to treat preeclampsia as well, with the hope it will prevent eclampsia. A study published in the June 1, 2002, issue of The Lancet confirms this hope.[xxiii]

Women receiving magnesium sulfate had a 27%
lower risk of premature detachment of the placenta.

One of the key arguments is that today's agriculture does not allow the soil to enrich itself, but depends on chemical fertilizers that don't replace the wide variety of nutrients plants and humans need."

Close to 10,000 women with preeclampsia from 33 developed and developing countries were involved. Use of magnesium sulfate resulted in a 58% decrease in risk of eclampsia compared to use of the placebo. This translates to 11 fewer women in 1,000 suffering from eclampsia. The preventive effect of magnesium was consistent regardless of the severity of the preeclampsia, the stage of pregnancy, whether an anticonvulsant had been given prior to the trial, and whether the woman had delivered before entry into the trial. Women receiving magnesium sulfate also had a 45% lower risk of death than women receiving the placebo. There appeared to be no difference in the risk of fetal or infant death related to the use of either the drug or the placebo.

Hi Team,

Was reading Amit's post to moonsonatadream.

A little word on "eating healthy".

In looking to change my lifestyle in terms of eating good food, I new my diet wasn't very good but had no idea just how bad it was.

Body pH and "acidosis" etc was all news to me once I started researching what i had done wrong, which led me on to deeper nutrition research on food.

In New Zealand, we suffer from a high lack of Selenium, a key cancer fighter, in our food, and I was horrified to learn from a national nutritional/medical researcher of some renown, that nutrition in the food in NZ is a joke.

Our soils are highly nutrient deficient, which is mimicked into the "good veges" as part of the food chain.

Superphosphates in use in the 80's for rapid crop growth caused a massive growth in cancers, with the balance between phosphates and another mineral I fleetingly can't recall, dominated by the phosphates and causing cancer in mice and sheep in farms here and in Australia.

(hence the CAA product I blogged a while back.)

They eliminated the superphosphates and addressed the mineral balance in the soil and this problem all but disappeared (at least on that one farm).

So even if I had been eating "alkaline foods" as a major part of my diet, I still wouldn't have been getting the required vitamin and key mineral intake needed to stay healthy.

Moonsonatadream seemed mistified that her partner got this when he didn't smoke, drink, exercised etc, but the truth seems to be that nutritionists the world over are blowing loud horns about the poor quality of food.......and no-one is listening.

So, even if you think you are eating healthy, the food presented to you on the supermarket shelf may be far from providing you with what you need, simply because of where it's grown.

One pundit said if you expected to get everything nutritionally you need from the supermarket, you better take a dump truck and be prepared to eat that amount every week.

3.5bn people on the planet when I was a kid, over 6bn now. Demand, demand, demand.

Visit the vege section ?.............great !!............but if they haven't been grown in rich nutrient soil, it only looks good.

DO NOT imagine for a second that a fully alkaline diet (fruit and veges) and what is on your shelves will help do the trick............nutrition, nutrition, nutrition, and supplement to hell and back as you can.  Wih the average supplement at $15 a bottle, this gets expensive fast, which is why at $30/a bottle INCLUDING courier, the CAA product looks like a steal.  Mine arrived within 2 days of order and I take just one a day. Cost effective and supposedly with the right balance of vitamins and minerals. All the work is done for you.

And in New Zealand now, with a cancer rate of 1 in 3, the same as in the US (they are talking upgrading that to 1 in 2 shortly in the US) we have grown up over the last 2 generations blissfully unaware of what processed foods are doing to us; processed because they have to meet a rapidly increasing demand.

Take a look over your shopping list...........sugar is partytime for a cancer tumour. I had a leading brand of orange juice for lunch today (thinking "this is the high quality stuff) and forgot to check the contents label.  31 grams of sugar. Try finding proceesed food without sugar added to make it taste better to encourage you to buy more.

Too much sugar suppresses the immune system.

You have to buy and eat smart.

Have a guess how much sugar is in Coca Cola and other carbonated drinks.

Have they released Coke Zero (zero sugar) in your area yet...........if not it's coming..........and why?.........my sources in the nutrition field tell me lawsuits are pending and being prepared as we speak against the softdrink manufacturers because they knew the health effects of the amount of sugar they were putting in their drinks, just as the cigarette manufacturers new what the effects of the tar were in their product.

Watch that space.

The marketing phrase for Coke Zero here is "as it should be". I'd like to modify that to "as it should have been when you first manufactured it".

Read the food chart on Coke Zero...........no sugar,no nutrients, "0" on most points............what does it do then ? I t sells and makes them profit.

Tastes nice tho eh ?

It takes a horrific multiple of water intake to nutralise the acid effects of Coke.........1x 1.5ltr of Coke and you need about 18 similar bottles of water to counter it.

I have started on 6-8 glasses of water a day (when I can remember) ,instead of Coke or other carbonated drinks, and I can't believe the difference.

I had no idea and wasn't aware my body was screaming for water to get rid of the junk in my system.

And, we all wander through the supermarkets buying what we think is good food.

I'm sure many of you have read of the people of the remote Hunza Valley who eat 40 apricots a day, grown in nutrient rich soil, and drink glacial water rich in nutrients. They also eat the kernel of the apricot, rich in B17 (the famed Laetrile in the USA).

Their cancer rate is 1 in 1,000. Somewhat different to us eh ?

Regretfully they now have a road pushed through to give them "aid" (those poor primitive people that they are) , and are now getting their first "western" food options, and their cancer rates are climbing.

Here, it is just dawning on people that you either have cancer, know someone who has cancer, or know someone who knows someone who has cancer.

Maximum of twice removed, and closing.

The answer on the food issue ?............I would suggest supplementation and organic foods to try and help rebuild your immune system, and that takes time...........and wouldn't you know it, once you have cancer and your life looks to collapse, you find the food you should be eating is now 3 times more expensive than what you usually bought.

CAA seems to be the cheapest and most balanced, one pill only , supplement I can find...........as to the organics, you have to find someone you can trust.

A chicken farmer here was fined NZ$45,000 for distributing 45,000 dozen eggs (540,000 inividual eggs - too bad they didn't charge him a buck an egg) listed as coming from "freerange" chickens, when in fact they were from battery hens.

One of his workers reported him to the health and agriculture department.

Who do you trust ?

With industrialisation, food processing and refrigeration, our eating habits have changed radically within the last 200 years, and we are suffering because of it.

Ever hear of a "paliolithic diet".  The cavemen didn't slice off a nice steak of bison, mix some veges and steam them on the nearest "hot stone" which the women built a fire under.

They killed a bison/buffalo..........that was their meal until they ate it all (no refigeration), they found an orchard, they ate fruit until they were full.

One type of food at a time, so the stomach acid produced had only one type of food to contend with.

This is why western "digestion" produces such a hard time for our bodies.

Are we taught this at school.?.............no.

Most of us consider food from 4 perspectives, and usually in this order:

1) What it looks like (looks good)

2) What it smells like (smells good)

3) What it tastes like (we test it if it's new to us)

4) what it's made of (nutrition last)

Few of us consider what it's doing to us between going down the throat and into the toilet.

Amit is correct...........when everything collapses the mountain looks too high, but with time everything changes.

It is a terrifying thing to have your life, all the work you've done, all your dreams for the future to be placed under direct threat, all under sentence of being erased totally.

Deciding to fight it will be the hardest decision you ever have to make, and sometimes against friends who  say.........make the best of the time you have left.

Pardon my french but "screw that".(and that's the polite version)

You may win, you may lose (me included)...........but I rail against the machine that gives you a death sentence with no hope of recovery.

Remember this........they have too often been wrong before........and may be with you.

Sadly, they are many times right, and that is the terrifying thing............but, as Amit says, we can't change the situation we are in.  Accept that and engage the battle.

When I confided my fears to a friend the other day, he said to me.......life is precious, and the honorable thing to do is fight for your most precious gift..........if you win, you will feel reborn, if you lose, you have not given up a valueable gift without a fight...........and that is the honorable thing to do.

I am not a person of great faith, I don't know about God or the afterlife, but with this disease and the possible outcome, and the shorter timeframe before that outcome is likely to pass, it focuses your thoughts on what may come next.

If there is a God, Allah, Spirit of the Forest, Goddess of the Sky, Mother Earth..........whatever your faith or spirituality has you believe, would you face them saying you just gave up, or that you fought for it ?

Every day you are above ground and taking a breath is a victory.

I would love to push a button for you moon, and regress the clock to the time before your husband has this, as i would for myself.........but we can't.

I would say turn your despair to energy, get into the fight and fight hard.

I know you feel smashed to bits and lacking in the energy to even look at attempting this...........but we all have hidden reserves.

I've been running around this planet for 42 years, and seen some stuff that just doesn't make sense...........the one thing I know is that we know nothing, and that includes the doctors.

Feel the fear and do it anyway.

Lastly, there is a very strong link between the mind and body......it will know if you give up...............so, keep going, no matter what.

If you feel like faltering, have a contract with your close friends to pick you up and make you go on.

Rest while they support you, and walk on your own when you've recovered.

I hope these words help.

Hi all
Would like feedback on whether or not this sounds like a good idea and if so, any comments on the clinics mentioned:

We live in New Zealand. My husband has just been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma - we don't know which type yet because we are still waiting for the biopsy results but we do know it is stage III or IV.  Instead of having the chemo and radiation therapy which is all that is offered here, we are thinking of traveling to Mexico for Alternative Medicine treatment.

Presently looking at one of the following clinics:
CHIPSA,
Dr Donsbach's temporary clinic (Hospital Santa Monica closed at present),
International Bio Care Hospital and Medical Center
Stellar Maris Clinic

We have no idea of the treatment costs yet so we don't know if we can afford it. I certainly hope so, because we are very worried about receiving solely chemo and radiation treatment.

Our GP is trying to talk us out of it, saying that if it really worked then the doctor's themselves can make money out of it and would be doing the same thing in America. It feels like we are going around in circles at the moment and are not sure what to think. Reading alternative treatment testimonials on the internet is very encouraging but our GP has cast some doubt on it.

Any input would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks.

Regards
Sharrea

Hi Folks,

An interesting update after a trip for 11 days to Perth to visit family.

While over there, a Western Australia official spoke on TV of legislation to eliminate totally, all softdrinks from WA schools.

Looks like the word is spreading, if albeit slowly.

If you know anyone drinking these "liquid lollies", now is the time to give them the heads up on the damage they can and do, do.

I never knew sugar had such a detrimental effect on the immune system.

It now takes me all my time to keep quiet with people I don't know (they don't listen to a stranger) when I see them drinking Coca-cola.

In my "corporate days" I read the story of how Coke become one of the world's leading "brands".....it now looks like they might become one of the most reviled..............all in good time.

To hammer the point from my last blog, and I really need to, try finding food, at least processed food, that does not contain some sugar in it.

I bet you have a hard job.

It is an insidious potential killer.

Better poor food with no sugar, than food that tastes good or is acidic, with it.

Eliminating acidic and sugary foods give your body a chance to start healing itself.

Most alkaline foods don't have it, making them high on your diet priority list..........even if they are nutrient deficient in many cases.

However, consider canned beetroot.

Still has sugar.....................typical..........processed food again.

Cooking raw beetroot bulbs takes about an hour if it is a large bulb (the "time in the kitchen" thing again) or a shorter time if they are smaller.

Sloughing the skin off them with a knife (comes off easy enough) leaves messy red stains on your hands, but these can be washed off if you do it relatively soon after peeling.

Beetroot is relatively tasty done in this manner, and can be added to your diet list, particularly if you've never cooked it before personaly, expanding your diet list.

I do this about every 2-3 weeks, since it can be such a messy job, just to expand my diet.

Remember to leave the tail and about 3cm of the stalk ON, or the bulb will bleed while cooking.

Perth.

Fantastic city............1.2m people.

Having not travelled internationally for some 20 years, it was a culture shock to be in Australia.

Same as New Zealand, but more expanded.

Bay after bay, yachts, very hot, direct sunlight was a killer at 37 degrees, but a very vibrant city.

The city was spread out and connected by bridges all over the place.

Housing was of a higher standard and the roads were wide and expansive.

Train system was fast and cheap, food was expensive, the people, hmmmmm.....a little "focused" for my taste, they either work or play but didn't seem to mix the two and there is definitely more money with the larger population, as well as better developed infrastructure.

We visited Freemantle, Rottnest island, and were startled by two huge peacocks that apparently had the run of the local bar..........the locals didn't bat an eyelid as they wandered in.

Little "rat kangaroos" or quokaas were everywhere.

Dropped in at some local aussie beaches.........magnificent curves evereywhere, and the beaches weren't bad either.

The heat on hot days is a little oppresive, but the locals spend a lot of time in air conditioned spaces I am told.

Not sure I'd want to live there, bahamas would be better with higher humidity.

Their train stations are on high alert after the Bali Bombing, and people even lock their doors while they are home.

Brick houses are the norm for the heat, and new subdivisions have high walls for security.

Be a great country to explore..............goes on forever.

Aussies seem to be under the impression that we hate them, which is not true. Intersting how national perspectives are with distance.

Perth TV is based mainly around the city itself, with the odd national item, a result of their geographic isolation.

The focus on money game shows was also a surprise.

The trip itself was theraputic, showing me how life could be and injecting a desire to live more of it.

I've decided I've worked all my life to achieve the ability to go out into the world and experience all that life has to offer, and I'm not about to stop now.

Mantaining a "live" attitude is the hardest part of being afflicted with cancer, and avoiding talking myself into a bad result has been the consistant battle.

However, my focus has been in the financial field and additionally of late in humanitarian causes, so I have decided to keep on with those, since they offer "hope", and continuing that work focuses me on my life to this point not having been a waste of time.

That eliminates one of the "negatives".

I've found another little "life-play" that helps.

I visually play in my head (from time to time) a scene where my my doctor is saying "well Mr Stanton, we can't seem to find any evidence of the cancer in your body".

They say put the energy of what you want out into the universe, to see if it comes back to you.

I've seen that actually work sometimes.

Can't hurt !!

Run that scenario when you are down, even multiple times, breathe deep and "lean" physically into anything that makes you feel like the cancer might be progressing in your body, like someone is pushing against you.

We have a saying here in NZ, whenever we face a difficult challenge, and the more difficult, the more emphatic this saying is expressed........

GET INTO IT MATE !!!!

Health and happiness.

You want to talk cutting edge...?
How about a procedure so cutting edge that for twenty years the medical mafia have tried to steal the patent, reverse-engineer the prototype, sabotage her work, etc.
... even the same month that they approached the medical community with the idea of marketing the device, the doctor's house was broken into... luckily the device was not in her home at the time of the break-in. The medical community is well aware of what she does and her unprecedented success rate... it is no mystery why in these groups I can only refer to her as Dr. C. and give the URL of the website.
She is a sworn enemy of the medical establishment, and does no local advertising... only on the GCN radio network. On three occasions, out-of-state ultrasound technicians have deliberately LIED to patients about the lack of bloodflow (proof of cancer death) evident in the results of their scans, DVD analysis has proven this.
Any of you who want to learn more about it can tune in to the GCN radio network at 8 AM CDST on April 28th, when The Power Hour will host the third in a series of live phone-in interviews with Lase Med. If you don't have a shortwave, you can go to http://www.gcnlive.com and click on the LIVE STREAM button. Also there is an archived interview from January on the Lase Med website, on the main page.

Ya know I will tell you about two others that are "cutting edge" and proven themselves time and time again:  One is Dr. Burzynski in Houston, TX (I'm sure most have heard of Burzynski - he is cited in just about everyone's work / books / research.  He is known to turn around terminal cases without a hitch and what a NICE compassionate guy he is.  Also a guy by the name of Donald Monus in Largo, FL, he is a researcher / scientist and worked on the Elizabeth Glasier Aids Foundation as a research scientist / virologist and he is UNBELIEVABLE.  I have referred about 6 people to him,  some with cancer, some with other issues.  He takes your blood right there and puts it up on a high power mac-daddy microscope and can see all - REALLY.  He saw immediately (in me) the cancer and showed me the cells and told me it was not as bad as the picture they were painting. I had a mild fungal thing going on, we saw parasites and a pleomorphic bacteria in my phagocytes (part of the white
cells).  I started on one thing he gave me to clear up the phagocytes so they could get freed up to fight the cancer as they are the first responders to invaders / disease.  Next step the parasites.  He also has his own formula of a natural chemotherapy agent that just attacks the "unhealthy cells" --- you should see some of his patients that had tumors busting out of their bodies (I saw the pics) that are o.k. today.

Cancer update -- Johns Hopkins -- Cancer News from Johns Hopkins:

         1. No plastic containers in micro.

         2. No water bottles in freezer.

         3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters.
This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical
Center as well.

Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't
freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases
dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at
Castle Hospital, was on TV to explain this health hazard. He talked
about dioxins and how bad they are for us.

He said that we should not be heating our food in the
microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods
that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and
plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells
of the body.

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware,
Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same
results, only without the dioxin. So such thin gs as TV dinners,
instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container
and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what
is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food
restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin
problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just
as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As
the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually
melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.

Cover food with a paper towel instead.

This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in
your life!

Hi Team,

Re: "soft drinks".

Did I call it or what ?

Governor Arnie in Calif has just passed statutes removing softdrinks from schools, as have a number of other states from what I understand from a BBC item.

Looking back to my time in hospital, I recall seeing a warning chart about the very high acidity of coke posted on a ward wall as a health warning, and yet they had softdrink dispensers in the hospital cafetaria.......might have to write to the hospital about that one.

Coca Cola and others are  on the back foot and moving fast to get into "health drinks".

The UK Coke CEO was interviewed and very "upbeat" about Coke's future...... a pity they can't throw the whole dam executive board in jail.

Had a browse over health drinks at the local supermarket, including a pureed kiwifruit drink..........still loaded with sugar........10 grams.

38 grams of sugar in a can of coke, 27 grams in a 1.5 litre bottle........the can is more deadly and concentrated.

Even the MILK here has sugar in it ( I was very surprised to see on checking), something I would never have guessed.

Keep your eyes open - tell your friends.

I see group postings are down.............don't be shy, this is a support group.........information on possible cures is not the only item of interest.

Thought for today...............there is a strong connection between mind, body and spirit...........don't abandon your dreams or future plans........if you have cancer you are sick and have to re-prioritise your health at the top of your list to start with, but also keep working on your future, just locate it a little down the priority list during your day.
Your body and subconcious, which is very powerful, will react to the thought that you are planning a future, and a whole new level of battle against the cancer will begin.

I read somewhere recently of a young man in his 20's who was not the owner of an over-active imagination ( as I have) who was told he had cancer and had maybe 6 months to live.

The full import didn't hit him as all the lights were on, but maybe in this case perhaps a little dim on current, so he shrugged and went back to work.

Three months later he went back for tests, and the cancer was 100% gone, much to the astonishment (yet again) of the doctor.

Lesson - sometimes it pays not to stress.

Easy to say, hard to do, believe meI know, but again this comes under being personally responsible for your own health state.

Sometimes when I start to stress I have to actively say to myself........just calm down, take it easy, be gentle with yourself........this is hard work and mental suffering to be sure, but it IS a discipline you can master.

Take some deep breaths until the anxiety passes...............you CAN survive this.

If I find myself mopping, and realise it, or thinking too much, Iam out the door for fresh air and a stiff walk, weather permitting.

Stress taxes your immune system, and when you are stressing, your immune system is dealing with that rather than battling the cancer...........in this respect you are shooting yourself in the foot.

Live your life, make the changes required and keep going.

Be aware of it, but relegate the cancer to the trash bin in your mind..............your mind is a POWERFUL weapon.........use it.

Last thing today.............I realised my lifestyle today is much different than it used to be...............but I also realised after much thought that I wasn't crediting those changes with any power whatsoever, against the cancer that I saw as "very strong".

Mind flip required..........now everything I do I credit as an attack against the cancer.

Food, exercise, sleep, water, pills, new treatments...........everything.

Health and happiness.

Hello,
I will appreciate advice from those who have ameliorated the cause
of their cancers or high platelet causing the cancers. in l999 I was
told my platelets are too high.I was prescribed a very toxic drug
called hydroxyurea which I later learned from reading the PDR,that
it could cause leg ulcers. So I stopped. I also learned later
through a gynecologist by sheer coincidence, that hight platelets
means cancer. I was diagnosed as having a "bone-marrow."
problems, but believe it might've started from a "gum problem." since
the dentist wouldn't pull my tooth out claiming I would bleed too
much, but which I have been consuming higher spoonsfuls of MSM to
ameliorate the pain.,Although the MSM has stopped the pain of my
tooth, they(gums)are still inflamed. My bones actually feel pretty
well, and are "strong." that I can walk and exercise daily,I just
feel a "burning sensation."sometimes. I also consume
Curcumin/tumeric piils, several higher doses of Vitamin C (upward
35,000 mgs. daily.)The Vitamin C has helped me get back my sense of
smell and taste, which I didn't have for many years. The vitamin C
is also a good cleansing for the intestines and I've added some
Acidophilus which helps clean the intestines too.

I do not want to take the weekly"blood withdrawal shots." because
I also learned that punctureing the veins like this also causes
the"high platelet counts." as they heal the puncture wounds. I also
learned that Arthiritis,too much exercise,ovarian cancers,can also
Cause "high platelets." I do not have the later,so Iam asuming
the "bone marrow problem." might've started from a gum disease. Iam
working very hard just to stop the inflammation. I rarely "feel any
inflammation.",...only a little in my big toe, none in my hands or
arms, or anywhere else, just a "little burning sensation.' in my legs.

I am wondering,if member of CureZone has tried Oliveleaf, and if
it has actual good effects of ameliorateing illness?

Hello. I am a researcher at the University of Oklahoma who is
conducting research on Internet support groups. Our research team is
interested in understanding how people communicate in on-line support
groups, and we are seeking participants for an on-line survey. Despite
the growth and popularity of these groups, there are relatively few
studies of them and their perceived usefulness. The survey should take
about 10-15 minutes to complete, and your responses will be
confidential. You must be at least 18 years old to participate.

If you are willing to participate in the survey, you can access it at
the following link:

doctors saying that the treatments are quackery and fraudulent and the

the program. Has anyone used the Clark treatment and cured themselves

thyroid gland to concentrate iodine and research has shown that
fluoride is much more toxic to the body when there is iodine
deficiency present. When iodine is supplemented the excretion rate of
the toxic halides bromide, fluoride and perchlorate is greatly
enhanced. Brownstein says that after only one dose of iodine the
excretion of fluoride increased by 78% and this is very important for
those who are drinking fluoridated water or are taking medicines with
fluoride in them; bromide excretion rates increased by 50%. Our

$75,000 Offered For MD to Publicly Drink Vaccine Additives
Jock Doubleday, director of the California non-profit corporation
Natural Woman, Natural Man, Inc., has offered $75,000 to the first
medical doctor or pharmaceutical company CEO who publicly drinks a
mixture of standard vaccine additives.

The additives would be the same as those contained in the vaccines
recommended for a 6-year-old according to U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, and the dose would be
body-weight calibrated. It would include, but not be limited to:

* Thimerosal (a mercury derivative)
* Ethylene glycol (antifreeze)
* Phenol (a disinfectant dye)
* Aluminum
* Benzethonium chloride (a disinfectant)
* Formaldehyde (a preservative and disinfectant)

On August 1, 2007, if no one has taken the challenge, the offer will
be increased to $90,000 and will increase at a rate of $5,000 per
month until someone accepts.

Vaccination Liberation Press Release

Jock Doubleday's Vaccination Liberation

Dr. Mercola

Not surprisingly, this offer has been on the table since 2001, but no
one has been willing to take that toxic chemical cocktail -- except
for the children who innocently go in for their routine vaccinations.
With the average amount of loans for medical students now well in
excess of $100,000 you might have thought some doctor would have tried
to cash n on this so they could accelerate the payment of their
student loans.

In addition to the vaccine additives listed above, others can include
ammonium sulfate, amphotericin B, pig blood, rabbit brain, monkey
kidney, betapropiolactone, tri(n)butylphosphate, and a laundry list of
other chemicals. The mercury-based preservative thimerosal, in
particular, is dangerous. Mercury is a poison and potent neurotoxin.
Injecting it into a child, whose nervous system is rapidly developing,
can have terrible consequences.

From the evidence I have reviewed and my own clinical experience it is
clear that mercury is one of the reasons autism skyrocketed in the
last 10 years. Autism has started to decrease now that some the
vaccines have eliminated mercury, but be wary; many vaccines still do
contain thimerosal, no matter what you may have heard.

And even those vaccines without thimerosal still contain an incredible
number of dangerous chemicals. When the mercury is removed, it is
typically replaced with another toxic additive that is frequently just
as health-harming. The aluminum hydroxide used in many vaccines has
been linked to symptoms associated with Parkinson's, ALS, and
Alzheimer's. Phenols, methanol, isopropyl, and 2-pheoxyethanol are
other ingredients which are corrosive or toxic.

The bottom line is, if you are a parent and are considering
vaccinating your child, please read up on the potentially devastating
side effects of vaccines before doing so. It could mean the difference
between life and death. Avoid the fear mongering and take some time
to read ALL sides of the issue, not just the propaganda conventional
pediatrician will present to you. Most educated parents that I know
that have done a careful analysis of the data invariably chose not to
vaccinate their children.

Subject: A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO CANCER TREATMENT

Dear All,

This article provides a different perpective to cancer treatment mechanisms and describes the outcomes of a successful technique that might be of help to some patients.

Cancer is defined as any malignant growth or tumor caused by abnormal and uncontrolled cell division (mitosis). All cells require energy in the form of ATP that is produced in the mitochondria to carry out regular activities including the cell division. The rapidly dividing cancer cells require much more energy in the form of ATP compared to normal cells. Therefore a mechanism that may halt or control the excessive ATP production of the cancer cells will eventually lead them to cell death (necrosis) and can be a solution for controlling the cancer..

In the cell the nucleus determines the amount of ATP to be produced after analyzing the data obtained by several sensory molecules and then sends the necessary messages to the mitochondria with the messenger proteins to advise how much ATP should be produced. These messages are received by the glycoprotein sensors of the mitochondrial membrane and transmitted inside to initiate ATP production.

Please note that all biological processes in a living system are based on selective transactions between the proteins and their targets. There are more than 10,000 different proteins in a typical human cell responsible for different processes. Therefore within the cell there should be a very precise mechanism that will enable any particular protein to locate its specific target among millions of other molecules.

The typical explanation of the established medicine is the classical "lock and key" model where it is proposed that  through bumping into one another by chance - random collisions - those molecules that have complementary shapes lock onto to each other so the appropriate biochemical reactions can take place. However this is a rather inadequate way of explaining the delicate mechanisms taking place inside the cell. It is like trying to find a friend in a very dark crowded ballroom in the dark. A superb article The Real Bioinformatics Revolution (http://www.i-sis.org.uk/TheRealBioinformaticsRevolution.php) , regarding this issue is written by Professor Mae-Wan Ho, the President of the Institute for Science in Society.

In her article Prof Mae-Wan Ho was referring to the extensive research of Prof Irena Cosic who had demonstrated that all protein sequences with the common biological function have common characteristic frequency component in the distribution of free energy of electrons along the protein backbone that is related to the protein's biological function.

Furthermore, Prof Cosic showed that the proteins and their targets have the same characteristic frequency in common that can be used for recognition and interaction between the particular protein and its target at the distance. Thus, protein interactions can be considered as resonant energy transfer between the interacting molecules and by applying an electromagnetic field, it is possible to program, predict, design and modify proteins and their bioactivity.

A rather simplified explanation of her research is that proteins communicate with their targets only at a specific resonant frequency. So if it is possible to determine the specific resonant frequency of a certain biological process and apply it externally, it might be possible to control, reverse or eliminate the malfunctioning process related to it.

In that respect by applying the relevant resonant frequency of the target protein responsible for the malfunctioning processes in the mitochondria, it could be possible to control the excessive ATP production and consequently the uncontrolled cell division.  This is exactly the method a brilliant scientist Dr Seckiner Gorgun discovered back in 1970s and has perfected in time.

In his article Studies on the Interaction between Electromagnetic Fields and Living Matter Neoplastic Cellular Culture (http://www.gemm-therapy.com/eng/gemm_study.asp) appeared in the Temple University's Journal for Frontier Perspectives, Dr Gorgun stated that the glycoprotein sensors of the mitochondrial membrane are able to decipher electrical signals at a well defined resonant frequency and amplitude by reacting in a specific way. He hypothesized that in cancer cells, the excessive production of ATP is related to a shortening of the glycoprotein sensors present on the mitochondrial membrane with consequent lowering of the impedance that in turn does not discriminate between the signals in frequency and activates the production of ATP in an almost continual way. The cancer cell would therefore go into mitosis due to the excess of ATP. In simple words any kind of message from the environment at any frequency can trigger ATP production in cancer cells as the glycoprotein sensors lost their sensitivity.

Dr Gorgun proposed that by applying specially modulated electromagnetic waves at the relevant resonant frequencies, it would be possible to increase the impedance of the glycoprotein sensors through the lengthening of the polyglycidic chain. Because of the high impedance induced on the mitochondrial membrane by the electromagnetic treatment, this time the glycoprotein sensors become deaf to any kind of messages they receive from the environment and the cancer cells stop producing ATP and therefore enter into necrosis, the cell death.

In various cell studies he had conducted at the Marine Biology Laboratory in Turkey, Hannover Medical School in Germany and the National Cancer Institute in Thailand, Dr Gorgun documented both the immediate destructive effects and the change in the morphology of the cancer cells following this treatment.

Over the last 30 years he had successfully treated hundreds of terminal cancer patients that did not respond to conventional therapies. A typical example will be the Recurrent Glioblastoma Multiforme (a very malignant brain tumor) whose tumor continued progression despite her surgery, radiotherapy and different chemotherapy combinations and considered to be a terminal case by her doctors in London. Her video  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk-O5AloSFs   shows her perfect condition  two years after  her GEMM Therapy.Several other patients with different malignancies and widespread metastasis all over their body were also successfully treated and referenced in Dr Gorgun's web site..

As the treatment is non-invasive and the low-power radio waves used to transmit the therapeutic signals at the specific resonant frequencies do not pose any health risks, the effective treatment program can be an interesting option for terminal cancer patients that do not have many alternatives left for them.

For those interested to get to know about this promising treatment, the web site www.gemm-therapy.com contains in depth information including references from several medical doctors and scientists who had first information regarding this unique approach including Prof Beverly Rubik, the founding Director of Center for Frontier Sciences at the Temple University, Dr Mark J. Nevue, the former President of the National Foundation for Alternative Medicine, Prof  Hans-Joachim Schmoll, the Chief of Oncology and Hematology Department at the Hannover Medical School, Prof Alberto De Renzo of Clinic Casa di Cura, Dr Turhan Temucin, former Chief of Ankara Numune Hospital and Prof Emilio Del Giudice of the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics.

All the Best,

Sam

TANGLAD

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
While I was undergoing chemotherapy for ovarian cancer, my oncologist, Dr.
Cecilia Llave, suggested that I try tanglad (lemon grass) for a drink, a tip she
got from one of her patients.

That's what I have been doing the past three years. I don't know if tanglad has
something to do with it but so far I'm okay.

A few weeks ago, an article on the medicinal powers of tanglad went the rounds
of internet. There's no harm trying this. A bunch of tanglad is ten cents. Or
you can plant it in your backyard for a steady supply.

The article is by Allison Kaplan Sommer:

'At first, Benny Zabidov, an Israeli agriculturalist who grows greenhouses full
of lush spices on a pastoral farm in Kfar Yedidya in the Sharon region,
couldn't understand why so many cancer patients from around the country were
showing up on his doorstep asking for fresh lemon grass.

'It turned out that their doctors had sent them.

''They had been told to drink eight glasses of hot water with fresh lemongrass
steeped in it on the days that they went for their radiation and chemotherapy
treatments,' Zabidov told ISRAEL21c.

'And this is the place you go to in Israel for fresh lemon grass.'

'It all began when researchers at Ben Gurion - family: University of the Negev
discovered last year that the lemon aroma in herbs like lemon grass kills cancer
cells in vitro, while leaving healthy cells unharmed.

'The research team was led by Dr. Rivka Ofir and Prof. Yakov Weinstein,
incumbent of Albert Katz Chair in Cell-Differentiatio n and Malignant Diseases,
from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at BGU.

'Citral is the key component that gives the lemony aroma and taste in several
herbal plants such as lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus), Melissa (Melissa
officinalis) and verbena (Verbena officinalis. )

'According to Ofir, the study found that citral causes cancer cells to 'commit
suicide: using apoptosis, a mechanism called programmed cell death.

'A drink with as little as one gram of lemon grass contains enough citral
toprompt the cancer cells to commit suicide in the test tube.

'The BGU investigators checked the influence of the citral on cancerous cells by
adding them to both cancerous cells and normal cells that were grown in a petri
dish. The quantity added in the concentrate was equivalent to the amount
contained in a cup of regular tea using one gram of lemon herbs in hot water.
While
the citral killed the cancerous cells, the normal cells remained unharmed.

'The findings were published in the scientific journal Planta Medica, which
highlights research on alternative and herbal remedies. Shortly afterwards, the
discovery was featured in the popular Israeli press.

'Why does it work? Nobody knows for certain, but the BGU scientists have a
theory.

''In each cell in our body, there is a genetic program which causes programmed
cell death. When something goes wrong, the cells divide with no control and
become cancer cells. In normal cells,
when the cell discovers that the control system is not operating correctly - for
example, when it recognizes that a cell contains faulty genetic material
following cell division it triggers cell death,' explains Weinstein. 'This
research may explain the medical benefit
of these herbs.'

'The success of their research led them to the conclusion that herbs containing
citral may be consumed as a preventative measure against certain cancerous
cells.

'As they learned of the BGU findings in the press, many physicians in Israel
began to believe that while the research certainly needed to be explored
further, in the meantime it would be advisable for their patients, who were
looking for any possible tool to fight their condition, to try to harness the
cancer-destroying properties of citral.

'That's why Zabidov's farm - the only major grower of fresh lemon grass in
Israel - has become a pilgrimage destination for these patients. Luckily, they
found themselves in sympathetic hands.. Zabidov greets visitors with a large
kettle of aromatic lemon grass
tea, a plate of cookies, and a supportive attitude..

''My father died of cancer, and my wife's sister died young because of cancer,'
said Zabidov. 'So I understand what they are dealing with. And I may not know
anything about medicine, but I'm a good
listener. And so they tell me about their expensive painful treatments and what
they've been through. I would never tell them to stop being treated, but it's
great that they are exploring alternatives and drinking the lemon grass tea as
well.'

'Zabidov knew from a young age that agriculture was his calling. At age 14, he
enrolled in the Kfar Hayarok Agricultural high school. After his army service,
he joined an idealistic group which headed south, in the Arava desert region, to
found a new moshav
(agricultural settlement) called Tsofar.

''We were very successful; we raised fruits and vegetables, and,'he notes with a
smile, 'We raised some very nice children.'

'On a trip to Europe in the mid-80s, he began to become interested in herbs.

Israel , at the time, was nothing like the trend-conscious cuisine-oriented
country it is today, and the only spices being grown commercially were basics
like parsley, dill, and coriander.

'Wandering in the Paris market, looking at the variety of herbs and spices,
Zabidov realized that there was a great export potential in this niche. He
brought samples back home with him, 'which was technically illegal,' he says
with a guilty smile, to see how they
would grow in his desert greenhouses.

Soon, he was growing basil, oregano, tarragon, chives, sage, marjoram and
melissa, and mint just to name a few.

'His business began to outgrow his desert facilities, and so he decided to move
north, settling in the moshav of Kfar Yedidya, an hour and a half north of Tel
Aviv. He is now selling 'several hundred kilos' of lemon grass per week, and has
signed with a
distributor to package and put it in health food stores.

'Zabidov has taken it upon himself to learn more about the properties of citral,
and help his customers learn more, and has
invited medical experts to his farm to give lectures about how the citral works
and why.

'He also felt a responsibility to know what to tell his customers about its see.
'When I realized what was happening, I picked up the phone and called Dr.
Weinstein at Ben-Gurion University, because these people were asking me exactly
the best way to consume the citral. He said to put the loose grass in hot water,
and drink about eight glasses each day.'

'Zabidov is pleased by the findings, not simply because it means business for
his farm, but because it might influence his own health. 'Even before the news
of its benefits were demonstrated, he and his family had been drinking lemon
grass in hot water for
years, 'just because it tastes good.''

i am a new member , but only because i didn't know of this group. i have been
diagnosed with multiple myeloma last june . i had radiation and was supposed to
have the stem cell surgery in sept/o8. however i ended up with a broken leg ( i
had a cracked lesion in my left femur . and my family doctor insisted i didn't
have cancer in my femur . then when he was notified about the cracked lesion he
did not tell me and 4 days after , i moved with a bit of a twist from a chair to
a walker)and it snapped the leg right across )) all this was to explain how i
ended up with the break , not what an idiot my family doctor is lol. since the
leg has healed i have been having trouble walking due to problems with the other
leg , so as i should be as healthy as possible and mobile the stem cell surgery
is still on hold .
now the reason i am writing is i wish to know from anyone who has had stem
cell surgery and how succesful it might or might not be. also is it even
recommended !!! i think the longer i have been waiting the more i think and
quite possibly i am just thinking to much and becoming paranoid . i hope so lol
. any contributions are appreciated ! my email is sailorkambri@... or

Was told today that they found a mass in his colon. I do not know the stage of
it yet. They said that they see something on his lung too which I believe the
cancer has spread to his liver. My "Uncle Peter" as we affectionately call him
is 61 years old. I will not let this thing defeat him, he will defeat it! This
will be our motto!

May GOD bless anyone who has recently found a relative, love one to be diagnose
with this disease.

I am reading everything I can and just received the Essaic tea today. They are
planning on operating on Wednesday perhaps.

I need to talk to my uncle soon..waiting for everyone to leave so that I can
talk to him in peace...

GOD is providing me guidance...and with that...Im out!

PS... I had this eerie feeling of doom riding me for awhile and didnt know what
it was, thought it was my mom or dad but now I know! GOD was preparing me for
this.

And I accept the challenge whatever the outcome!

I've been a reader on this forum for a long time.
Never posted before now.
I was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic prostate cancer on about
Aug 1 2005 . PSA 419 Gleason 9 with multiple liver mets ( By multiple I mean
there were too many to count spread thoughout my liver. My estimated survival was
6 month to 2- 3 years Told to get affairs in order and go fly fishing (my hobby)

In February I had my annual scan (MRI this time) and bloodwork.
To make a long story short , there were no hepatic abnormalities ( no liver
mets) my PSA ws 2.7 .( I still have my prostate Gland. No sign of disease.

I had no surgery (to late for that) , no chemo ( refused) , and no radiation.
The only mainline treatment I did was about 17 months of Hormone Therapy at the
beginning.

The rest was diet , supplements , frequency therapy , and much prayer.

I'm writing this to give encouragement to those who have been told it is
hopeless , because "it's not over til it's over!" ( Yogi Berra
).

Hopefully my strategy will continue to work ( with God's Grace) for many more
years..... If not , it was all worth it. Life is much better with Hope as many
of you must know.

Good luck to all !

Regards
Mark
