We are considering autologous periperal stem cell transplant with
high does chemo for my son. We are looking at Ifosfamide, Carboplatin
Etoposide (ICE) for the high-dose to be administered in Shands of
Jacksonville (FL) with harvesting at Shands of Gainesville (FL).
He has germ cell testicular cancer metastisized to his spine. Three
tumors (maybe more now) thorasic and new tumors (3-5) lumbar. We
thought we were about to win in July and then again in December but
the counts started back up after hitting a low at 300 (Now back at
2500+). Matt turned 21 in late August and has excellent family
support so he has never spent a night alone in the hospital. He is
unable to walk now so he used a chair (usually on two wheels).
After a year of multiple chemo protocols his markers are climbing
(for the third time). His upper body is still pretty strong but he
has lost some fifty pounds in the past year and is loosing more now.
He has tollerated the chemos fairly well during the past year.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone about experiences,
suggestions, cautions, etcetera in dealing with metastisized germ
cell tumors.
Also, I am planning on adjusting his dietary protocols and would
appreciate any suggestions of what to use or avoid. At this time I'm
planning on adding products from "Nutrition For Life" (Phytogreen
Concentrate, B-Complex Mega Formula, E with Lecithin & Wheat Germ
Oil) and "Life Extension" (Life Extension Mix w/o Copper, Life
Extension Booster, Flor-Essence, Super Soy Extract, N-Acetyl L-
Cysteine, Calcium D-Glucarate, Pecta-Sol). If anyone is using
products from these companies or would like to suggest others as
alternatives please feel free to make any suggestions at all.
We're open to any and all suggestions either through the group or in
private. Just one request: be specific where it comes to
products/sources.
Thanks all.
