HI,

I just read this notice from Don Cooley on PCa-Advanced, and five minutes
later this worm appeared.

Do not click on anything. Highlight a message above it or below it, delete
that message, and as soon as the worm is highlighted, delete it.

To All

This is another notification of this worm, It is really spreading. I
received this today from Langa List, one of the Computer newsletters that I
belong to. Please be careful!!!!

W32.Sircam.Worm
This new worm is spreading by email with unprecedented speed; I've gotten it
sent to me by *hundreds* of readers so far, most of whom have no idea their
PC is spewing out copies of the worm.

It's a bad one: First, it's clever, and actually uses it's own mini mail
server to propagate itself. But second--- and unlike the vast majority of
worms--- this one really can cost you *all* your data!

The worm/virus arrives as an email attachment. The email (which has several
variants in English and Spanish) usually says something like:

Hi! How are you?

I send you this file in order to have your advice

See you later. Thanks

Other variants include "I hope you can help me with this file that I send"
or "I hope you like the file that I sendo you" or "This is the file with the
information that you ask for."

The subject line of the email is random, but is the same as the file name of
the attachment in the email, which also is randomly generated.

Good news: Nothing will happen unless you actually run the malicious
attachment: Just don't click on it, and you're OK.

Also, ZoneAlarm correctly identifies and disables the attachment before it
can do anything.

And all the major antivirus vendors are on top of this. For example, see:

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sircam.worm@mm.html
or
http://dispatch.mcafee.com/dispatches/sir_cam/

Again, this is an unusually aggressive, clever, and destructive worm. Be
careful!
