Re: RGB Glasses Schematic

Rod,

In the latest sets we have built here we are using some red, green, blue high output LEDs for the light source.  As the High output LEDs are generally made up of more than 1 LED, the dropping resistor made need to be adjusted.  We use 1 per side instead of the 3 shown in the file.  We got some super cheap (packs of 50) on Ebay.  The spec sheet for the diodes are on the ebay ad.

The 7805 Voltage regulator has been around for a long time and will work well with any input voltage from 9V to 12V and if  you are building in a small metal box, can be grounded to the box and use the box as a heat sink.

I use a miniature switch to control the color of the lights and find that the program being used and my state of mind going in usually determines what color I use.

While my experiments using multiple (up to 4) colors simultaneously seemed to be more of a distraction to me, it is relatively easy to do.  Using D, T, JK and Master-Slave Flip Flops, you can toggle any combinations you want if you use the Q and NOT Q outputs to trigger the others.  You may need a hex inverter or driver to driver the LED.  With up to 4 colors at once we were still well under the current capabilities of the 7805 (but I would heat sink it).

I think it may be easier to entrain on one color since the stimulus isn't changing.  Haven't played with this theory on an EEG but we all did best on the single color here.

I like the effects I get with the high output LEDs.  The patterns I see are much more vivid than with the standard ones and entrainment seems easier with them.  They are also very cheaply available on eBay.  You can also get the multi-color Red/Green/Blue as well.

Red, Green and Blue are my favorite colors.  Yellow and orange seemed a bit harsh and the white was a definite no, leaving me with a headache.  Experiment and find what works best for you.

Hope this helps.
