When two frequencies are mixed, four frequencies result;f1, f2, f1+f2
and f1-f2. It is f1(140)-f2(100) that you are interested in. The
other frequencies are not in ranges that are relevant to entrainment.
This can get inexperienced experimenters into trouble as they try to
come up with complex entrainment programs (I won't use the term
'preset' as it is BWGEN specific and the problem isn't with BWGEN).
They want to entrain the brain to multiple frequencies, create 5 or 6
voices at the frequncies they want to entrain on and are confused when
it doesn't work as planned. I analyzed one on the BWGEN site and was
able to find that 63 additional frequencies below 100 Hz were being
generated, from .5 (low delta) to 78 Hz (gamma). The reviews, not
surprisingly, complained of headaches as a result.
The most effective method we have found to entrain on more than one
frequency is to separate the methods used for entrainment. for
multiple thetas you might try a monaural beat with an audiostrobe
channel at the second frequency. If you are good with mechanics,
build a device for touch with a rhythmic tapper or mild heat source to
entrain on. This keeps the entrainment sources from mixing and
producing unwanted by-products. Nothing messes up a sleep inducement
program like an unwanted 18 Hz beta tone...or a 3 Hz delta tone in an
alert concentration program.
