The "sound" you are most likely referring to is the sound of blood
pulsing through the inner ear. It makes a quiet hissing sound.
In addition there are many other sounds, which do occur in the brain,
the firing of each individual synapse firing (they sound like a pop).
Many years ago I was in a very stressful situation and began
expereincing out-of-body events. One of the first things I noticed
was how very quiet everything was when I left the body. (We must grow
used to the sounds and tend to ignor them).
But in getting out of the body it became appearent just how loud and
annoying they are; and how peaceful it is without all the "machinery
noise". I remember how much I hated reentering the body, both because
it was so cold (it feels like cold, wet clay) and how noisy it is.
(Also because of the limitations of freedom and the darkness once
back in the body). But the sound of silence is the first thing I
remember.
Anyway, those sounds can be recorded; but sound meaningless apart
from the way we precieve them from within.
Interestingly, there are other "sounds" that can be detected, not
with the inner ear, but by the subconscious. They have nothing to do
with the body and can't be recorded (difficult to describe as well).
Heard mostly in deep meditation or just as we begin to wake.
