Hello,
I am looking for some advice on the Breast Cancer walks.
I am looking at doing either the 3 or 2 day events or there is
another that is a 7 day walk through Italy. All three go to great
organizations, SGK, Avon, and Y-Me. I guess my major concern is
about the money and how much actually goes back to a breast cancer
org.
I had a friend that rode in an AIDS Ride and after there was a lot of
bad press about how little money went back to the benefiting
organization and how much went to producing the event and I just
don't want that to happen with the donations I collect so I am
looking for any advice you may have.
The 3-day walk, the website says they will receive 85% of the net
proceeds, but it does not give any indication of what the gross
proceeds will be (I know that may be a little hard to predict because
the events have not happened yet, but I have emailed them about last
years results and no one has replied) also, is the producer of the 3-
day that same Pallotta Company? It looks like it, and they even have
the same phone number?
The Avon 2-day, I can't find any information on how much actually
goes back to fight breast cancer. Which concerns me, I know they
will have to pay for the event out of the donations and then the
money goes into their fund, which again administrative cost have to
come out of and then the money actually gets to an organization?
Does anyone have any insight on this?
The Italy Breast Cancer Walk looks like a somewhat new organization,
but 100% of all the money goes to Y-ME, which I am thrilled with. I
wrote to them and they replied very quickly and assured me that 100%
of the money goes to the beneficiaries; donation checks are made out
to a beneficiary that administers the money and then makes
distributions to the other beneficiaries. Participants cover all
their own expenses while on the walk. Has anyone done one of these
or is anyone doing it this year? Their website is www.rfac.org
As a Breast Cancer survivor, I just want to make sure all the money,
or at least most of it, is going to fight breast cancer. Any
comments suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
