 Head Lines from BTS

Head Lines
September 2007

There is Hope.
There will be a Cure.

Caregiver Syndrome

The frustration and exhaustion experienced by many family caregivers is now being described as "caregiver syndrome."

Some coping tips for caregivers are online in the BTS Caregiver Support area.

How to Help

Your gift to BTS brings us closer to finding a cure and makes a difference in the lives of all those affected by brain tumors. Learn more about ways to support our programs and services.

Support other survivors and caregivers through our COPE Program.

Share your story with other patients and caregivers. Learn more about submitting your story for consideration on the BTS website or in our quarterly print newsletter, Heads Up.

BTS Board Member is Award Finalist

Barry Glassman is one of four finalists for the Community Leadership Award through InvestmentNews , the weekly newspaper for financial advisers. Barry has been involved with the Race for Hope in Washington, DC for nearly a decade and is now a member of the BTS Board of Directors. Congratulations to Barry on this recognition of his devoted service to the brain tumor community!

Tumor Painting Holds Promise

A recently-developed "tumor paint" is 500 times as sensitive as MRIs to tumor tissue. This agent illuminates cancerous cells, giving surgeons clarity by clearly identifying tumor versus healthy brain tissue. Toxicity studies are underway now, and clinical trials should follow soon.

Pass the Garlic

A compound in garlic is effective at destroying GBM cells, a team of researchers will report in this month's Cancer journal. Find out more about how to get the most out of garlic as researchers continue to investigate this connection.
