Re: [bomri] Re: Publication of Beckman Interventions without a therapist's input
Hi Debra,
Congratulations on your accomplishments. Would you feel comfortable completing a surgical procedure from a handbook that you as a non physician purchased? I don't think so. This concern applies also to Beckman Oral Motor Assessment and Intervention.
I do not give permission for publication of the Beckman Oral Motor Interventions without the direct input of the therapist treating the child. I have had several incidents of misuse of the information to the detriment of the child with negative impact for all of the therapists using Beckman Oral Motor Interventions. You may certainly reference the material, but you may not publish the actual protocol and interventions for general use. Do you have the correct citation information?

Hi Barbara and Debra,
I am finishing an advanced, distance masters degree (OT) from San Jose State University. My thesis title is "Transitioning to table food" and describes a holistic approach to helping children in the early intervention population transition from purees to table food. For my project (I tried to devise a research project but it fell apart half way through so I had to back pedal with a project) I am compiling a holistic guide for parents of suggestions to help them help their kids through this process, based on the most common and suggestions that I have been giving to parents for the last 20 years..
May I have permission to use, with full copywrite acknowledgement, a few of the Beckman Oral Motor protocol exercises in my guidebook? I realize that this may be counter to the policy of the protocol, and I am not suggesting that parents could begin to be competent based on a picture or description in a booklet. But I do
use the Beckman exercises in my practice, and feel they are now an integral part of many therapist practice, and any compilation of suggestions would be lacking without at lest some Beckman exercises and acknowlegment. I will probably use only two or three of the exercises that are most easily explained by photo or drawing ( I don't know which ones yet). I would be happy to share the text of my thesis so far if you are interested.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if further information or discussion is needed to clarify any details of this querry.
Thank you,
Debra Rabin, OTR/L, CLC Los Angeles, CA
