Renee,
I'm so surprised the "consumer junkie" part of you hasn't bought and
reviewed this on your blog. I just bought on amazon.com the

GoWear fit Lifestyle and Calorie Management System
and the
GoWear fit Display Device

It was on sale to buy them together for $189 inclu free 3-month
subscription (through Jan 31), and I see they're not on sale today. I
bought them last night at 2am on sale .. Whew!!

They have gotten rave reviews on JP Forum.
http://forums.jpfitness.com/fat-loss-troubleshoot/35615-gowear-fit.html

I had been advised by Leigh Peele that the reason I wasn't losing
weight all those years was that I had become sedentary outside of the
hour I exercise each day because of my foot problem, and that even at
1300 calories, it wasn't enough of a deficit.

The GoWear fit you wear on your arm 24-hrs a day and it measures every
calorie burned, and you can see how your daily activity and your
exercise and your sleep chart in a spike graph for the day. I'll say
more after I begin wearing it.

It is an upgrade of the Body Bugg (don't know if you reviewed that, Renee)

large sneakers instead of boot/brace (ahead of schedule!), hopefully
to a successful surgery result..

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up. I just added it to the Gadgets and
Gizmos section of my store (http://www.skwigg.com/id105.html).

The reason I haven't tested the GoWear Fit or the BodyBugg is that I'm
naturally spazzy. (That's the technical term for it. :-) I dance, I twitch,
I fidget, I spin in my chair, I run when I should walk, I take stairs two at
a time, I have a pedal exerciser under my desk. I basically never hold
still. So, I couldn't get my brain around the idea of wearing an arm band
and paying a subscription fee to have the software tell me, "Yep, you're
spazzy." :-)

BUT if you're someone who is trying to lose weight and isn't very active
outside of workouts, I suppose one of those things could be life-altering.
It would show you really quickly whether you're creating a calorie deficit
or breaking even. The more you move, the more you can eat and still have the
body composition you want.

Be sure to give us a report on it, Etana. It looks cool.

Renee

A low TSH is called hyperthyroidism. In most women it's related to a
multinodular goiter. You need to find an endocrinologist now!! I go
back to see mine for just this problem on Tuesday. I have 2 or 3
nodules on each side of my thyroid that. If they start growing they
can affect my vocal cords, swallowing, speech, and of course create
that ugly goiterous bulge under the neck. Low TSH can cause heart
palpitations, high blood pressure, anxiety attacks, wicked mood
swings, nervousness, etc. You are tired and feel like crap because
your internal systems on on overdrive. I was a nervous wreck, had
tremors, and hideous mood swings. I couldn't think straight because
my mind was hyped, I felt like I was on speed. I wasn't sleeping and
had night sweats.

I work with a gal that had a stroke because she had undiagnosed
hyperthyroidism. Luckily, she is a nurse and was in the hospital
when she had her stroke. Can you say "lucky girl?" DO NOT play around
with this. Please. I'm hoping to have my thyroid ablated or killed
off this year and will then take a daily synthetic hormone to replace
the missing thyroid hormone. I'm just tired of being scared of this
thing wacking out on me or just plain ol' whacking me.

few other things....Just depends.... Tonight i did the upper body
for 30 min..My arms and shoulders are sore!

This is phenominal I made it for the superbowl tonight.

A lighter Guacamole

3/4 cup frozen peas, thawed
3 tbs water
3 small ripe avocados peeled, coarsely smashed
3 green onions thinly sliced
3 tbs chopped cilantro
1 1/2 tbs lime juice
scant 1/2 tsp garlic powder
scant 1/2 tsp hot red pepper sauce
3/4 tsp salt

Process peas and water in a blender until smooth, about 30 seconds.
Transfer to a bowl and stir in the remaining ingredients. Press plastic
wrap directly onto guacamole to prevent browning. Refrigerate. Makes 1
1/2 cups.

Per 2 TBSP serving: 41 calories, 1 g protein, 4 g carb, 3 g fat, 2 g
fiber, 150 mg sodium

Serve with veggies if you are wanting to watch your calories :)

Extra protein helps, good carbs like a baked sweet potato and make sure you
are getting flax oil in your diet. Also, they have chocolate protein
powders.

You can use any of these BFL desserts as a complete meal:

http://www.geocities.com/jgrrl2/dessert1.html
http://www.geocities.com/jgrrl2/dessert2.html

And Gourmet Nutrition Desserts is a free download. These recipes
also contain protein and can be used as a meal.
http://www.precisionnutrition.com/cmd.php?pageid=427076&u=d

Or I like...

banana cream pie pudding:

2 cups lowfat milk
30g vanilla protein powder
1 box Jell-O sugar-free instant banana pudding

mix, divide it into 2 containers, chill - makes 2 servings
It has like 300 cals, 23g pro and 26g carbs. You could divide it into
more servings if you want to keep your portions smaller.

If you're living dangerously you can stick two vanilla wafers on top
before you chill it. It's also great made with chocolate pudding and
chocolate protein powder. Although, I've found it doesn't really make
one bit of difference what flavor your protein powder is. Get your
favorite sugar free jello pudding and use whatever powder you have.
You can also mix sugar free Jello gelatin according to package
directions, but instead of chilling it, pour it into a blender with a tub of
cottage cheese until it's blended smooth. Then divide that into individual
containers and chill. You get a smooth, flavored dessert treat instead of
plain lumpy cottage cheese. Same protein content, same calories, less ick.

That Precision Nutrition link downloads an entire booklet of recipes.
Wheeee! I like the Myoplex Lite Chocolate Chocolate Chip bars for chocolate
cravings. They will do the trick.

And if you take Skwigg¹s recipe and use coconut pudding and chocolate
protein powder you get a german chocolate cake pudding. :-) Or use
cheesecake pudding and really any flavor of protein powder and you get a
delightful little treat.

Here's a little "food" for thought.

http://caloriecount.about.com/starbucks-coffee-nutrition-m4

I've been stalled out for a while, actually for about as long as I've
been selling real estate and working out of my car. (Last August)
All you road warriors know we have to grab it when we can and will
give our eye teeth for a clean restroom. Starbucks has been my
regular stop. I started with a simple double shot of espresso but
then eventually migrated to things I should be leaving alone. And
then everything stalled out and then started going backwards. And
well, out here there's a Peet's Coffee where there isn't a Starbucks
and then there's It's a Grind and the Panama Bay guys. Well, I
buckled down for a real challenge last Monday. It's been so far like
the Biggest Loser. Six pounds since Sunday. And a real wake up call
that a little here and a little there can really screw things up.
Jillian Michaels quoted 42 pounds a year you could gain from a Mocha
Latte a day. Then I figured I could have lost the 42 since for the
most part I held my own. Interesting. I'm back to packing my food
if I'm out on the road all day, as it should be.

Way to go! I pretty much figured out the only treat I can have there is a
tall non fat cafe aulait

I gave up caffeiene on Monday, and pretty much anything else that wasn't
clean eating. I'm not giving up coffee for ever, just for 3-4 weeks, but I'm
down 4 pounds since Monday and I figure refocusing can't be a bad thing.

Hang in there!

Renee,

Thanks for posting that link. I was moved by her story, she is really
a woman to admire. I think most people would not mind growing older
if they realized they could be in the physical shape that she is in.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom on getting out of the "now I'm
dieting/now I'm not dieting/I'll start dieting again tomorrow"
mindset? I know it's bad but I can't seem to get out of it! Aaargh!

For me it seems like I have to make it a job. I have to force myself to do
it, like it's a project from work. It's an on/off switch for me just like
you said. It's force until it becomes feeling voluntary or real for you.

> I just read a LIFE-CHANGING book by Chantell Hobbs called Never Say
Diet. She lost 200 pounds and has kept it off for 5 years. I can't say
enough good about it. The life-style she lives now (she's never said it
was a diet) is a lot like Body for Life. At first she couldn't take a
free day because it would trigger a binge for days. She made food plain,
like fuelf for her body. In her book, after a couple of months of that,
you start having free meals. Everyone is different. I love two things
she said though... First of all, she didn't set out to go on a diet, she
set out to be a better person. She makes that choice every day.
Second, She says we choose to live with the paing of discipline or the
pain of regret. It's our choice.
Best Wishes,
Jen W.

p.s she also treated it like the job she always wanted and she didn't give
herself the choice to quit.

It's not a diet. It's a way of life. I've been following BFL since
2002. Sometimes better than others. It has allowed me to maintain
the same weight through my late forties and now beginning my
fifties. I have always had a weight problem and I believe without
BFL I would be ready for the Biggest Loser by now. I can do better,
but that's not what we're talking about here. I never say I'm on a
diet. I just chose wisely. Right now, as I mentioned yesterday, I'm
dialed in. Sometimes I do that. I never diet. Ever. I'm lucky in
that pizza has made me sick for years, so that's been off the table.
Everything else, I just lay off or make alternate choices. At
company buffets I would chose a protein and a carb and get some
salad. You can pick like that off of just about any menu except a
Barbecue house. It's a way of life. You're not dieting, you're living.

I've gotta agree with Val. It's a lifestyle choice, and I never call
it a diet, because there's no end to it. Every time I run to the
cupboard for an Oreo, I stop and ask myself the same thing I ask my
kindergarten students--hey, whatever works: "Is this a good choice?"
If I can talk myself out of the cookie, I do it. If I can't, I eat it.
But if I cheat, it's just for that moment. EVERY BITE YOU TAKE IS A
CHOICE. Those would be my words of advice. I cheat. And I'd make much
better gains if I didn't. But if you "fall off the wagon", then get
over it and make better choices the rest of the day. NEVER wait until
"tomorrow". Every bite counts, and every bite is a chance to start again.

I never diet, so it's pretty easy not to mess up something I'm not doing.
:-) If you want to be lean and fit, you need to eat well every day. Some
days I eat really incredibly well and some days I get creative with the
Doritos and chocolate, but I'm always aware of what and how much I'm eating.
I always do the best I can. I never "go on a diet" or "start tomorrow" or
any of that. If you're thinking that way, you've already set yourself up to
fail. Success is about your actions right now in the present moment. If you
push it off onto what you may or may not do tomorrow, then you never get
anywhere because, of course, tomorrow never really comes. It's just an idea
that you can delay indefinitely.
