Why ehealth matters to patients

Jennifer Zelmer, CEO, International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation

Centre for Health Infomatics lecture
Tuesday 27 October 18:00 - 20:30

Why ehealth matters to patients

From banking to blogging, technology has changed the way we live our lives. The same is certainly true in many aspects of healthcare, which has seen such innovations as medical imaging and the ability to quickly search millions of research articles for the latest clinical knowledge change the face of healthcare. However, in other areas, the benefits of technology in healthcare – ehealth – are only just being recognised and the implications for each of us, as patients, are equally profound.

Jennifer Zelmer is CEO of the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO). In this capacity, she leads an organization dedicated to ensuring safe, accurate, and effective exchange of health information for patients and health professionals around the world.

Prior to joining IHTSDO, Jennifer led programs related to health information standards and analysis at the Canadian Institute for Health Information and worked with a variety of health, academic, and government organisations in Canada, Australia, Denmark, and India. She is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Victoria and has been a member of numerous health-related advisory committees and boards. Jennifer has a Bachelor's degree in Health Information Science from the University of Victoria and an MA and PhD in Economics from McMaster University.
