Reply | Forward Message #836 of 852 |
The University of Portsmouth is offering 2 PhD bursaries in the area of
Assistive Computing/Assisted Living.

One is to do work in the broad area of the application of mobile and wireless
technologies to telecare/assisted living. The other is to do work in the
application of intelligent systems to healthcare.

Applications are invited from well-qualified graduates to undertake research
leading to a PhD degree. Those holding degrees from British universities should
normally have at least an upper second class honours degree (a lower second
class honours degree plus a Masters degree is also acceptable).

The accepted candidate will register on a full-time basis starting in October
2009 and will work in a team spanning the School of Computing and the Department
of Electronic and Computer Engineering.

The bursary comprises an annual maintenance grant which for 2009-2010 will be
£13,290, together with full payment by the University of its UK/EU student
tuition fees.

Candidates must make a pre-application by uploading their details online at
http://userweb.port.ac.uk/~socres/rsapps/. The project outline should normally
be about 1000 words in length and include the topic area to be researched, an
indication of the innovative aspect of the research, such as how the topic will
break new ground, and the intended research methodology. Note that applications
by post or email will not be accepted.

The deadline for applications is 4th September 2009. Selected applicants will be
asked to supply more information, including the names of two referees. They will
be invited to come for interview in Portsmouth in early September and to give a
short presentation on their proposed projects.

For informal enquiries please contact: Professor Max Bramer
(max.bramer@...) or Dr Jim Briggs (jim.briggs@...).
