City offers a number of three-year, full-time doctoral research studentships each year, available on a University-wide competitive basis. 10 studentships are available for 2009-10 entry, each attracting a bursary of £14,000 per annum in addition to a full tuition fee waiver. Each studentship will also be provided with £1,000 which may be used across the three year period to cover the cost of conference attendance by the student, equipment purchase or other activity in support of the research. Bursaries will be uprated in line with inflation in subsequent years. Successful candidates will usually be expected to undertake some form of teaching support activity in their second and third years as part of the bursary arrangements, by agreement with the School concerned. Continuation of the award after the first year is subject to confirmation from the student's School of satisfactory progress by the student towards the end of the first and second years.
