Y Touring, Central YMCA's award winning theatre company based in King's Cross, are currently developing a project to tour schools nationally. It will look at the issues surround the use of Electronic Patient Records in medical research and the social and ethical implications in this debate. The first stage of the project is to hold a workshop where leading experts in the field, together with young people, potential writers for the project and stakeholders will discuss the issues involved. The project also includes a research element, working with young people and a group of patients to explore their attitudes on this topic. They are currently looking for people to take part in the patient group, see below:
How can patients communicate their opinions to decision-makers?
Laura Grant Associates and the Royal Academy of Engineering are looking for up to 5 patient-volunteers based in the London area to explore attitudes about the use of electronic patient records in medical research.
Volunteers will receive training in social science research skills and will report their findings to the Wellcome Trust, the UK’s major funder of biomedical research, and leading researchers in the field. The project will run between November 2008 and May 2009.
Would you like to be involved in this unique project?
Participants will need to attend a workshop in London on 20th November. Between January and April 2009, they will be supported by a researcher to conduct a social science research project related to people’s hopes and fears for research using electronic patient records. This work will take around an hour or so a week.
Costs for travel to the venues will be provided by the project. We will also provide each participant with a £50 high street voucher as a thank-you for taking part.
