Healthcare on the Record

A City University/City Livery Companies/UK Health Informatics Society Healthcare Technologies Symposium

Theme: This Symposium is the latest in a series of events focusing on current issues in healthcare technologies. The aim is to create a forum in which a number of experts will discuss new technological developments, from a wide range of perspectives, which offer the potential to enhance the organisation and delivery of health care.

The theme for 2005 will be Connecting for Health. This is the revolutionary programme which will see electronic health (and social) care records for all, electronic prescribing and electronic booking of hospital appointments, all made possible through the provision of a national IT infrastructure. A panel of eminent speakers will discuss the progress of this Connecting for Health programme and the challenges that it offers if change is to be brought about in a manner that will benefit patient, healthcare professional and health manager alike.

Speakers:  will include:

-          Professor Mike Pringle (Professor of General Practice, University of Nottingham and GP Lead, Connecting for Health)

-          Sir Jonathan Michael (CEO of the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust)

-          Marlene Winfield (Head of Public Engagement, NHS Connecting for Health)

Their individual contributions will be followed by a period of general discussion.

Organisation: The Symposium is a joint event of City University, four of the City Livery Companies (The Worshipful Society of Apothecaries, and the Worshipful Companies of Barbers, Scientific Instrument Makers and Information Technologists) and the UK Health Informatics Society. The event, which is the latest in a series spanning some 12 years is organised by the Centre for Health Informatics and the Institute of Health Sciences at City University.

Date and Time: Wednesday 1 March 2006 at 6:00 pm. The Symposium will be followed by a buffet supper at approximately 8:00 pm.

Participation in the Symposium is free of charge. The cost of the buffet supper is £26 (cheques payable to “City University” should be sent to Gill Smith)
