First International Symposium on Health GIS, Dec 1-2, 2005, Bangkok   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #579 of 852 |
Dear all,

I have just returned from Bangkok, Thailand, where I delivered an invited keynote speech at a very successful Health GIS conference held at the landmark Montien Riverside Hotel in Bangkok (1-2 Dec 05). About 320 delegates from all over the world attended the event, and there were papers from 22 countries. It was an unparalleled opportunity to do some excellent networking...

My invited keynote speech was very well received by the audience and generated very good feedback and questions from the delegates. The title of my keynote address was 'Towards an e-Aged Care / Health and Social Care Informatics Education and Research Agenda for Europe 2020 and Beyond'. Ageing populations and the associated workforce shortages in the health sector are two major demographic challenges that will be facing the UK and Europe during the coming decades. Some have said that the whole healthcare system will need to be reinvented. Of course GIS and e-health are playing and will continue to play increasingly important roles in all of this.

All presentations from this symposium including mine will be shortly available at the conference Web site:

Bangkok is a very beautiful (and warm - temp. ~26 oC) city. I am attaching to this e-mail some of the photos I took there.

Season's Greetings!

With kind regards,
