Research Associate in Knowledge Representation and Semantic Web Development

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to join an international
research team at the University of Manchester to work on the CLEF/CLEF-Services
(Co-operative Clinical eScience Framework) project. Building on GRID computing
technology. The post is available as early as possible for a period up to
three years. CLEF aims to develop a coherent clinical information framework that
meets the needs of patients, clinical professionals, and biomedical scientists
and researchers. It seeks to develop a safe, generic, high quality and
interoperable information repository, derived from operational Electronic
Healthcare
Record (EHR) systems. The post holder will develop software services for medical
knowledge representation and secure clinical research portals based on
Grid/E-Science middleware integrated with the rest of CLEF system.

http://www.clinical-escience.org. Starting salary in the range: £19,460 to
£29,128 per annum.

Applicants should have good honours degree or equivalent in computer science or
a relevant area. Ideally candidates will have a PhD in computer science or a
relevant area, or have some relevant postgraduate experience. The successful
candidate will have an understanding of object- oriented programming and
strong skills in software engineering, Java programming and web technologies
including, XML, XSLT, SOAP/Web services. In addition, experience of Grid
Computing and/or Knowledge Representation would be an advantageous.
