1 DAY COURSE ON STATISTICAL DISCLOSURE CONTROL.
Many researchers hope that one result of new advances in the pervasive use of IT in healthcare will be access to very large datasets of personal health information, for research purposes.
Statistical disclosure control is a methodology for enhancing and protecting privacy and confidentiality when sharing, or analysing, large datasets of personal information. The Cathie Marsh Centre at the University of Manchester is a leading UK department in this field. It curates the 1991 and 2001 UK National Census data on behalf of the UK government, providing access to samples of anonymised records on request. They are hosting a one day course on Statistical Disclosure Control, to take place on day before a national conference on statistics.
Details below:
The Royal Statistical Society Conference is to be held at the University of
Manchester from September 7th to 10th 2004 (www.mbs.ac.uk/rss2004; email:
rss2004@...) Its theme is Connecting Practice with Research.
On September 6th immediately prior to the conference a short (1 day) course
on Statistical Disclosure Control will be given by Mark Elliot. It is
possible to attend the course without attending the conference. Details at
www.mbs.ac.uk/rss2004.
