CALL FOR PAPERS - "Pacific Rim workshop on Medical Applications of
Artificial Intelligence"
Part of PRICAI 2004
(http://www.pricai04.info/)
Auckland, New Zealand
August 2004

Medical applications are an important part of the AI field, and have been
for many years. There is a successful 3 yearly conference in Europe
"Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Europe"(AIME), and the Asian Pacific
Association of Medical Informatics (APAMI) hosts a tri-annual conference on
broad medical informatics topics. There is no specific AI in medicine
conference in this region. The aim of the workshop is to allow researchers
in the Medical AI field to interact with each other, between countries and
between disciplines. Clinicians interested in the field, and industry
partners are particularly welcomed.

Topics
Submissions are invited on Medical AI topics, including but not limited to:

. Medical Information Retrieval and Ontologies.
. Knowledge discovery from Medical Information.
. Applications of AI in clinical practice.
. Integration of the Electronic medical record with AI.
. Systems to support patient care - e.g. reminder and guideline systems
. Diagnosis and classification systems.
. Intelligent Patient Monitoring
. Community and population health analysis systems.
. Intelligent training systems for health professionals.
. Nursing informatics

Submission
There are three types of submission:
(1) Scientific (full) paper
(2) Short paper (for reporting on trials, pilots, experiences and
lessons learnt, etc)
(3) Posters

Full Papers should be no longer than 10 pages including all tables,
figures, and references but excluding an extra cover page. Short papers
should be no longer than five pages. Poster abstracts should be no more
than 200 words. Fonts should not be smaller than 10 pt. We encourage
submission in Springer Lecture Notes Series format. (See the Springer LNCS
home page: http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html). When submitting
a paper, please indicate which category it is being entered for.

Selected papers may be eligible for publication in Health IT journals -
details to be arranged.

Any suggestions regarding the workshop or requests for information should
be initially addressed to Workshop Co-Chairs
