Hi catnap,
reviewed your messages today, and
thought I would rrespond. I contacted polio in '52, I was
22 months old. Of the 3 strains, I ended up with
2.
I went through the usual "treatments", operations,
therapies, ect. worked for pay since I was about 12, (on
migrate farms, and local hay farms. I was a parole
officer for the state of ohio, then later I was in
mid-management in an institution for the dual-diagnosed. Because
of PPS, I was forced to retire in '96. My wife work
in a forensic centter for the criminaly insane. As a
result of injuries she recieved at work, she was put on
permanent disability in '95, (knee/ back surgery was
unsuccessful). Just prior to our 'retirements', we had built a
beautiful cedar house, (mostly ourselves), on about 7
acreas in the trees. Not exactly a low maintainence
place.
Now, because we can not keep up with the
up-keep,
we are goinh to have to sell. Our dreams and plans
of retiring blessfully in the tranquility of our
dream house has turned nightmarish. Not only do we have
to re-asses our dreams, but our own identities as
well. not an easy thing to do, as many of us are
finding out. even seemingly simple things, like resting,
is hard to do. how, after 40 some years, do you
shift gears from pushing yourself to accomplish things
in life to just sitting in a corner and watching
life go by. I use to enjoy a lot of thingd, scuba,
motorcycling, carpentry, hunting, ect., now I dread even having
to go to the bathroom.
