You all sound like my husband...he was 18 months
old when he got polio (in 54)...he, like most polio
victims, is an over-achiever. He played in a band in high
school, layed carpet for about 30 years--until last year
when he had to quit for good. He tried 'estimating'
carpet jobs--going out measuring and figuring up how
much carpet the customer needed, but so many homes
have stairways that he has trouble with and, even
worse, ladders to climb up to loft areas or new
construction with planks and buckets rather than steps to the
houses...he just plain couldn't do it any longer. Now, he has
to plan his day at home as far as exerting
himself...he's good for a couple hours, then has to rest a
couple hours...He's a big fisherman and fears the day
will come when this activity will also come to an end.
We are moving to Florida in hopes that the warmer
weather will at least help the arthritis he has in most
of the bones in his body. Day to day, we don't know
what to expect. I'm so glad I found this site and hope
to find some kind of support system here...God bless
y'all...Catnap
