Hi Byron and All;
Here's a link that will explain frequencies and the octave
shifting principle: http://bioadaptech.com/soundlinks.htm
In particular, see Concepts I, section B, pp. B-5 & B-6.
Download the pdf file to your computer before starting the
Adobe Reader.
Octave shifting indeed divides by 2 to shift to a lower
octave - ages old musical principle. The Beta octave which
is ~16-32 Hz is a reference octave, convenient for database
lookup. It could just as easily been the Gamma octave from
32-64 Hz.
The Beta octave approximates the brainwaves in the normal
waking state. It also affects muscles, organs and body
structure. Subwoofer speakers deliver sounds ok in this
octave, but headphones have less effect. Audio sounds do
not appear to be the most means to deliver frequencies,
just the more convenient.
Other octaves are useful besides Beta, particularly for
women -- I've used the Gamma = 2 * Beta as a starting point
for a number of people.
Cheers,
Bill
