Hmmmm any chance that we can shoot for Thursday? I have an
appointment next Wednesday evening... Though I do like the idea
of meeting in Downtown Roseville. Eva's or the Vernon Street
Grill would be lovely.
I have some plans for Sept 14th, and I may be taking a class at
Sierra College on Monday and Wednesday evenings (Tuesdays don't work
because of family commitments). Looks like you should just plan
around me and I'll make it if I can . . .

I am also available at that time.
how about meeting at in a more "bike friendly" part of
town? I'd suggest downtown roseville at eva's (mexican
restaurant in front of magic circle theater). I am
open to any other suggestion in that area.

I'm looking into (well, currently waiting for an add code from the

likely out for me too. Sorry!
I am finally back from Europe and somewhat settled in. We also have a

I’d like to come, but I can’t do Tuesdays because of the Sierra Community Chorus… any other day should fine!

All,
I just found out that we are on the agenda for the October 20 RCONA
meeting to give the RCONA representatives a brief update on our group
and to ask them to let their neighborhoods know about our group. If
you'd like to join me at that meeting, please let me know.

Hi there,
I just found this group while searching for new and interesting
Roseville, CA groups. I have a recumbent tricycle that I ride
occasionally, but I get really nervous riding it around here even in
the residential areas.

Infrastructure, Education Increase Bicycle Commuters
A study by Jennifer Dill and Theresa Carr, "Bicycle Commuting and
Facilities in Major U.S. Cities: If You Build Them, Commuters Will Use
Them," found that only 0.53 percent of people in Denver commute by
bike. In comparison, 2.59 percent of people in Sacramento are bike
commuters, San Francisco cites 1.80 percent, Boston 1.48 percent,
Washington D.C. 1.42 percent, Los Angeles and Philadelphia 0.63
percent, Chicago 0.51 percent, and New York 0.42 percent. They
conclude that "the percentage of people commuting by bicycle is
significantly correlated with the bicycle infrastructure,"
specifically designated bike lanes. For perspective, Sacramento boasts
1.42 bike lanes per square mile to Denver's 0.07. For typical U.S.
cities with populations of more than 250,000, each additional mile of
bike lanes per square mile is associated with a roughly one-percentage
point increase in the number of people who commute by bike. However,
Dill and Carr note that "bicycle lanes and paths alone are not likely
to increase bicycle commuting." They cite education about bicycling as
an important component of increasing the numbers of commuters.

Mike has the plans for the striping plans on Foothills/PG available.
I'll meet with him tomorrow at 1:30 to look over it.
I'll try to get copies or take my camera or memorize it. Then we can
discuss it and see if we can get any input in.

Hello,
I don't know if you've read the latest squeaky wheel (SABA newsletter)
yet : there is an article about biking in roseville, and some of the
plans Mike shared with us last week:
http://www.sacbike.org/newsletter/2005_06.pdf
Pascal
according to http://www.roseville.ca.us/news/displaynews.asp?NewsID=120
151 roseville area residents participated in the program. that would
be a good benchmark for our action, if we compare this number with
next year's numbers...
Pascal
I think you meant Monday, right?
I put it in the calendar - I think anybody can put stuff in the
calendar and set reminders.

Please find below Mike's answer:
In terms of striping plans for PG/Foothills, there are plans that you
can review. I will try to get a copy and let you take a look. In terms
of the opportunity for input, we should probably talk about this. There
are some ways, but it is difficult at times. The best way to address
this is to look at our city-wide policy for striping, since that is what
the engineers use when they review the improvement plans. I am waiting
for engineering to get back to me on the issue of striping. Once they
do, we can discuss what the policy is. Thanks, Mike

we met, I propose a meeting next week at the HP R4 cafeteria.

I can't wait for that thing to be finished. I enter Foothills at South
Bluff Drive and the merge is annoying.
Here is an overview of how it used to look...

Hi All,
I went to Spin City yesterday. They didn't know people interested and
didn't really think people were much concerned about safety in
Roseville - though when I mentioned Blue Oaks and 65 they better
understood what I
was talking about...
They were reluctant to post the flyer, saying that people wouldn't
read it; which is probably why they had all these flyers about bike
races, centuries, and triathlons - because they didn't want people to
find out about it...
At least he agreed to post it on their web site, so I'll email it off
shortly.
bjorn
Hello,
seems like there's some road rework going on at the corner of foothill
and pleasant grove. that will involve (after it is completed)
restripping.
may be we have an opportunity to get things done right this time. the
engineering department (774 5339) seems to be responsible for the
stripping. Anyone wants to contact them? possibly we could work
through Mike Dour on this, if he is not already involved.
