If he was on a bicycle, then he shouldn't have been in the marked crosswalk. That seems like an odd observation.

Although I'm firmly on the pro-helmet side of the debate, I'm not sure what a helmet could have done to prevent this, or any, collision.

Since there's no comment on the driver's actions, I assume he was traveling at or below the speed limit.
