Bike and ped issues/successes on Cal Trans controlled roads and proj   Message List

Folks,

I am working on an effort to get Cal Trans District 3 (Placer, and 10
other nearby counties) to be more bike/ped friendly.

Two weeks ago, a number of advocates met with Will Kempton, Director of
CalTrans. He has an interest in making CalTrans more bike friendly,
and as a result of these meetings, I am in the process of setting up a
meeting with Jody Jones, director of D3. My challenge is that my view
of D3 issues has been rather narrow, based on what I know is going on
where I ride, and issues in Sacramento City/County.

I am looking to find out what is going on in Placer county regarding
bicycle accommodations in CalTrans projects (state and federal
highways and the intersections with them, such as 65, 80, 193, 49,
etc.) Does anyone have any information that would be helpful? Either
positive or negative is good. Also, has anyone been proactively
reviewing designs of future projects for bicycle issues? Has anyone
had any contact with CalTrans -- either good or bad?

Jim
