Hi David, Chris,
Thank you for the welcome note. I joined this group
because I will be moving to Roseville next year and
biking is a big part of my life.
I came across your website and I thought I would join
now to get a feel for what biking is like there. I've
visited the city a couple of times and was pleasantly
surprised to see really nice bike lanes. It was the
first thing I noticed! I grew up in Davis, and as you
know, it is probably the best bicycle city in the
country. I had bicycle culture shock when I left, so
I'm excited again to live someplace where at least
some effort from the city goes towards bicycle
planning.
I'm also an activist type so I'm looking forward to
contributing in any way that I can when I get there.
I've recently started a blog that I seem to be
focusing on activism and biking:
http://www.johnnycarlos.com
I am an environmentalist, I ride for reducing my
impact on the planet. There are hundreds of other
reasons too, like for good health, and it's just plain
fun. I do mostly commuting and utilitarian cycling,
and have recently taken an interest in collecting odd
bikes.
I'm visiting my family there this weekend and bringing
my bicycle to scope out the routes, which could in
fact affect my neighborhood choice.
Looking forward to meeting other riders,
John
