You are very lucky and I am glad you were able to walk away...

I would agree that riding closer to the curb would be a safer option
and one would avoid being hit from a merging car... However one still
has to cross the merge lane at some point - when and where would that
be crossing occur? I am not sure what the answer is...

I think Rosevillians need to be more aware of bicyclists - the numbers
of riders appear to be increasing while the vehicle traffic is not
aware of this "new" partner on the road. I also feel that the city is
not fostering safety with with posted speed of traffic - 45mph is
still too fast for city streets - the speed of traffic is not enforced...

Perhaps if the speed of traffic was slower AND enforced AND the
drivers were more aware of bicyclists, then this event would not have
occurred?
