Folsom City Council
The Folsom City Council will hold a hearing Tuesday on the
environmental
study for a planned "bicycle boulevard" project on Natoma Station
Drive.
In transportation circles, a bicycle boulevard is defined as a roadway
that
motorists may use, but that gives priority to bicyclists. According to
the
city staff report, a bicycle boulevard is designed to help reduce the
speed
and volume of cars on a particular street while improving the access,
convenience and safety for cyclists and pedestrians. Natoma Station
Drive
was chosen as the city's first candidate for such a project to relieve
demand for on-street parking for special events at the Ernie Sheldon
Youth
Sports Complex and Natoma Station Elementary School, the report says.
The city last month applied for funds from the state's Bicycle
Transportation Account to help pay for construction of a bicycle
boulevard
along Natoma Station Drive from Blue Ravine Road to Turnpike Drive, as
well
as an off-road bike trail connecting Natoma Station Drive to the Folsom
Parkway Rail Trail. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the City
Hall
Council Chambers, 50 Natoma St.
