Subject: [CalBike Report] California Bicycle Coalition Legislative AlertSeptember 13, 2006 Governor Schwarzenegger has just over two weeks to approve four legislative bills that would improve bicycling conditions in our state. Let’s show the Governor that’s bicycling community is paying attention to his voting record on AB 32, SB 1613, SB 1556, and AB 2444. The more support letters that we send to his office, the more that we can influence his decision. California Following you will find a description of each legislative bill’s purpose and a sample letter. Fax is the preferred method of communication, followed by postal mail, phone and, lastly, email. Please forward a copy of your correspondence to CBC so we can track support of these bills: fax, (916) 448-8246, postal mail,, and phone: (916) 446-7558. 1008 10th Street, #288 ,Sacramento ,CA 95814 SB 1613 (Simitian) Wireless Communications: This bill would prohibit a driver from using a wireless phone while operating a motor vehicle, unless the phone is specifically designed and configured to allow hands-free operation and is used in that manner. F SB 1613 Support Letter to Governor SB 1556 (Torlakson) The Great California Delta Trail System: This bill would establish a continuous recreation corridor to include bicycle and hiking around the delta perimeter, similar to the San Francisco Bay Trail. F SB 1556 Support Letter to Governor AB 32 (Nuñez, Pavley) California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006: This bill would place a mandatory cap on California's global warming emissions that would reduce California’s contributions to global warming, protect public health, and spur innovation. F AB 32 Letter of Support to Governor AB 2444 (Klehs) Congestion Management Fees (Bay Area specific): This bill would authorize the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (the regional transportation planning agency for the 9-county Bay Area) to impose an annual fee of up to $10 on motor vehicles registered within its jurisdiction. The fee would pay for programs that mitigate the impacts of motor vehicles on the environment.
