FYI on Blue Oaks/Woodcreek Oaks possible hit and run . . . (and the good advice to always wear a helmet; as if).

Subject: RE: RideHi Randy,Well after our wonderful ride yesterday I got in a bit of a pickle. About a mile from saying goodbye to you, I was involved in a hit and run at blue oaks and Woodcreek oaks. I don't remember anything about it. Just riding along and the next thing I know I've got paramedics asking me my name and strapping down my neck and body to a board and off to the hospital emergency room in the back of an ambulance. that was at 2:30PM. Three x-rays and two ct scans later I was released at midnight. I'm on crutches now and mostly just pain in my ankle, lower leg, hip (big time) and lower back...all on the left side. Like I said, I don't remember anything...the cops who showed up said it was called into 911 as a hit and run and they were looking for a car but I told the officers that I don't have any recollection of that. They asked me how I crashed and I said that maybe I hit a hole or bump or something but wasn't sure what happened. Because I lost conciseness they had to strap me down and do the ct scan. This was probably the first ride in a long long time where I didn't bring a cell phone or information on myself. If I had been in really bad shape they would not have known who to call. So for all of you getting this, make sure you always carry identification even for a short 1 hour ride with a buddy.I'll be at home for the week laying in bed jacked up on motrin and vicodin as I can't even put my pants on right now or sit in a chair. Bike ended up pretty ok. I'll have to replace both front shifters as they were smashed pretty good but if I was hit by a car it must have grazed me or touched my wheel or something because my bike is still in one piece. I'll need a new helmet though...let me tell you this, if you ride without a helmet you're retarded. This helmet saved me from cracking my head wide open. I barely have a mark on my head but my helmet is kaput.Oh, I won't be making the ride today!Lex "unluckiest cyclist alive" Grecu-----Original Message-----
