Malone:
I don't know what to say. I was dx only last December,
more than a year after I experienced the initial
symptoms (big toe throbbing). I quit smoking June last
year when my condition progressively deteriorated, and
my condition has slowly improved since then.
My toes are all intact, thankfully, although like
everyone else in this group the damage done is
irreversible.
One of the worse that happened to me was when my
entire toenail was removed--a far cry from what you
must be going through--which refuses to grow properly
up to this day, nearly a year after the surgery. The
worse, i think, is when my toe's tendons were cut off.
I now have to live with the fact that I can never
again flex my big toe. Again, that must be nothing
compared to having your limbs removed.
I'm so sorry to hear about your predicament. Did you
quit smoking? Stopping smoking was the hardest thing I
ever did, but it's definitely worth it.
